School Community

You may notice our foyer looking a little different lately. We have been working  hard to put together our brand new honour board showing our past School Captain and College Dux. Make sure you come and have a look and see if there are any names that you can recognise.

On the 8th of March, I went to Diamond Creek East Primary School, to talk about Diamond Valley College. I talked about the High Achievers Program and Sports Academy. There were lots of questions, some of which I couldn’t answer. It also answered some unasked questions about Diamond Valley, most of which were about the canteen! My primary school was Diamond Creek East, so it was nice seeing how it changed since I left. Overall, this was a great opportunity!

Year 7 Welcome BBQ

On Thursday 7th March, over 100 Year 7 families attended the Year 7 Welcome BBQ. Families began in a classroom with their child’s Level Up teacher where they were given a quick overview of the year, some important information about up and coming events as well as getting to see the Year 7 camp movie.

Families and staff then met in the courtyard for an informal catch up and a BBQ dinner.

It was lovely to meet so many of the Year 7 families gathered together.

International Womens Day Friday 8th March

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day was ‘inspire inclusion’ where students and staff of Diamond Valley College were encouraged to inspire others. Through this, we promote understanding of the value of women’s inclusion and create a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, students sported an array of purple ribbons, jewellery, and socks whilst staff showed off purple dresses, pants, and jackets. Furthermore, 5 female students (including myself) were offered the opportunity to be the acting principal for a session. During our allocated time, we were paired with an authoritative female staff member whom we got to shadow to understand the role they play in the school community. I found this particularly beneficial as I gained a new insight into the positive impact so many females have on our school community.

I was paired with Eva Dean who told me all about the importance of her job as the leading

teacher in supporting other staff members in their teaching strategies. She explained her role in organising NAPLAN and the time outside of school hours that teachers dedicate to finishing tasks. This experience highlighted how significant each role is in our community and has made me so grateful for all the hard work that the teachers put into their students’ educations. Many of the female staff at our school come from admirable professional backgrounds with a high level of education and now tackle their roles of teaching while also being mothers.

I would encourage all students at Diamond Valley College to be inspired by the women in our community.

Whole School Assembly

On Tuesday the 12th of March,  the School Captains held the second whole school assembly for the year. All the students were welcomed by Phoenix with his amazing guitar solos. After a welcome to country which was performed by Ashlee, Ella and Scarlett recounted their amazing camp experience. This was concluded by an amazing video which had the whole school laughing at many funny moments. Next Maggie (Bass’s sport captain) gave us a recap of this year’s swimming carnival and got presented with the house trophy which broke bass’s losing streak.

Finally,  I presented the SRC report, informing that every day this week there will be different activities for harmony week from mindfulness colouring, a staff vs student soccer game, and a lip sync battle for the staff. There was also a casual clothes day on the 21st of March. We concluded the assembly with an insight into the lip sync battle performed by Brooke George. On Tuesday Aiden won the lip sync battle and on Thursday the Staff won the staff vs students soccer game.

Wellness Week Monday 18th March - Friday 22nd March

Today was the first day of Wellbeing Week. We started Wellbeing Week off with an Easter scavenger hunt and some mindfulness colouring. At lunch there was Easter egg cutouts hidden around the school that students could trade in for an Easter Egg. There was also the option to do some mindfulness colouring in at lunch.

On Tuesday the 19th March, as part of Wellness Week, we held a Lip Sync Battle. About 450 students went down to the Stadium to watch the staff perform. It was a great battle, with lots of laughs. Well done to Aidan who won the Inaugural DVC Lip Sync Battle.
