What's happening?

Our Students Performed Strongly in the Interschool Chess Tournament

Another successful Interschool Chess Tournament ended on Thursday 29 February, with eager students from various schools participating in a day filled with strategic moves and intense competition. After seven rounds of gripping play, we are thrilled to announce the winners who displayed exceptional skill and determination.

 

Far North Queensland Secondary Term 1 2024 B Grade results: Congratulations to William Parkinson for securing 1st place overall in the B Grade category, triumphing in all seven of his games. His outstanding performance is truly commendable.

 

Far North Queensland Secondary Term 1 2024 A Grade results: Our school showcased remarkable talent in the A Grade category, with two of our teams ranking among the top three in the region:

  • The 2nd place team, comprised of Andrew Robertson, Hayden Coombs, Sami Abdalla, and Bryn Swain, amassed a combined total of 19.5 points, showcasing their prowess on the board.
  • Following closely behind, our 3rd place team, consisting of Xavier-Ray David-Williams, Kyle Hiranuma, Matthew Williams and Dylan Tatti, demonstrated exceptional strategic thinking, earning a combined total of 18.5 points.

Overall, it was a day filled with pride and achievement for our school. We extend our congratulations to all participants for their dedication and sportsmanship.

Chess Club Schedule: Remember, Chess Club will be held in the Gildas, Shirley Lennon Seminar Room every Friday of Term during 2nd lunch throughout the year. Join us for an opportunity to hone your skills, learn new strategies and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow chess enthusiasts.
