Boarders of the Week
Congratulations to our Boarders of the Week for Weeks 6 and 7. These students demonstrated positive and affirming attitudes towards their peers and staff members to make their residence a vibrant and enjoyable place over the past few weeks:
Junior Girls: Madison Ahloy-Coutts and Olivia Pedro
Junior Boys: Thomas King and Wesley McFarlane
Senior Girls: Hera Petrou and Chrissy Atkinson
Senior Boys: Blake Milbourne and Bereket Linnehan
End of term departures
The end of term is fast approaching, and all students finish on Holy Thursday 28 March. Those who have a long commute will be allowed to travel home on that day, however, weekly boarders must stay until 3.20pm. Thanks to those families that have sent transport and travel details to our respective heads of residence. If you have yet to do this, please send this information along with arrival information for Term 2 to the College in the next week. Students are expected back in boarding for next term on Monday 15 April between 3pm and 8pm.
Free weekend
Our boarders are enjoying a free weekend. Those who have arranged leave should be back at the College on Sunday night by 8pm or they need to communicate with their head of residence about an alternative return time. Students who've remained in boarding have the opportunity to prepare for Week 9 Block Exams and enjoy other activities.
We appreciate and encourage families to visit their children on weekends and are always happy for boarders to spend time with their families. We do, however, ask that at least 24 hours' notice be given to the head of residence so this can be approved and planned for.
Student illness
Over the past few weeks there has been some illness through the boarding residences. If weekly boarders are feeling unwell before returning to boarding on any occasion, I ask families to please keep their son or daughter at home until they are feeling better. While this is not always possible with the nature of boarding, it does help limit the spread of illness through the residences.
Boarders' laundry
Several items of recreational clothing remain unclaimed because they have no laundry number or name. We have asked boarders to check in the next week whether this clothing is theirs, and if no one claims it it will go to Vinnies.
Saturday outings
While our outings program has had its challenges because of the weather this term, we have enjoyed some excellent days at Lake Eacham and wet weather alternatives such as bowling and laser tag. These outings are a significant aspect of boarding life, as they unite full-time boarders and create a laid-back setting for social interaction.
Wishing all families an enjoyable week ahead.
