In the Classroom

Reading:

During the term, students have conducted author studies with Pamela Allen, Nick Bland and Mem Fox developing their understanding of a an entertainment purpose and structure of a narrative. Students have given verbal retells of a story and also completed a comprehensive look at ‘King Pig’ by Nick Bland, where they analysed the main character and how he could improve himself to be liked by the other characters. Students have also been made aware of these structural elements to consider for their own writing. We also had a wonderful visit from author Greg Driese, which the students found highly informative and entertaining.

Writing:

It has been exciting this term to witness students building ideas into their Writers Notebooks. Over the past fortnight, the students have been able to select one of their ideas and craft this into a story. They have been enthusiastically drafting their first story and have demonstrated a good understanding of sequencing their ideas in logical orders. 

Maths:

The students recently completed their work on Place Value and we will continue to use this as the basis of learning skip counting, and the operational units coming up (addition and subtraction). Last week we commenced working on counting patterns and the students have been working hard on identifying patterns for different skip counting ranges. This will continue into Term 2.

Swimming:

Our students completed a wonderful Swimming Program at Aquatic Achievers. It has been wonderful to see their skills develop as the term progressed. They have really enjoyed these sessions and we look forward to programming returning to normal in Term 2.

Buddies:

We have enjoyed a wonderful program with our Year 6 buddies this term and have collaborated in activities such as; paper plane building, card making, responsible game play, outdoor games and guided drawing. The celebration of the term was a movie afternoon in which the students enjoyed popcorn and a movie to share. We look forward to completing more tasks that our students have suggested as we move into Term 2.
