Math Footy Day

It’s that time again! Footy Maths Day is here to celebrate all things mathematical and footy based. Whether or not your team made it to finals, whether or not your heart lies with a round ball or an oval or not at all, there is fun to be had on Footy Maths Day.

We invite all Kalinda kids and staff to wear their footy colours or sports clothes on the last day of term, Friday 20th September. Just as we have for the last few years, we ask that everyone include a number on their attire - such as a jumper/guernsey number or one you add with electrical or masking tape or a piece of paper pinned on. This number is either a one or two-digit number. As one of our activities, we invite students to calculate the total sum of numbers for their class and then estimate the total sum for the school.

As is tradition, we will start with our supporter human graph on the basketball courts just after 9 am. Students will engage in AFL-themed maths activities throughout the day culminating in the announcement of the grand total sum of Kalinda numbers and the closest estimates from each level, with prizes for students with the closest guesses.

Not an AFL supporter? You are welcome to represent your team from another code or competition. Soccer, rugby, netball, basketball… all welcome. Just add a number to your outfit.

Thank you,

Mrs B Steele and Mrs B Draffin
