Let's Get Physical
Physical activity for improving social skills
Research compiled from National Health Direct indicates that regular physical activity highly improves social skills. The four main social benefits were found to be an increase in confidence, peer acceptance, leadership skills, and empathy. These four benefits can have a significant effect on a child’s health, happiness, and future. Regular discussions are held in PE lessons surrounding the amount of time young people need to be completing moderate physical activity each day. Please continue these discussions at home and create healthy routines around physical activity before, after school and on the weekends.
PPS House Carnival
What a day! When outdoor sporting events are planned at the start of the year, we really do have our fingers crossed that the weather will be on our side. 24 hours prior to the event it looked like a wet weather carnival but with the majority of the rain to fall prior to commencement of events. The morning of the carnival, this was not the case. It was RAIN, SUNSHINE AND RAIN!
Credit must be given to all students as they showed resilience, guided by their teachers and made it a successful day. Students were wet but covered in success through place ribbons and big smiles, participating in all the events. A big thank you goes out to all the parents who volunteered on the day and assisted with the events. Without you these days are not possible.
Congratulations to Jack C, Audrey T, Alice O, Aiden C, Ava Y and Ethan K who were champion boys and girls for their age groups. Well done to all those students who successfully earned their sports in the PPS athletics team who competed this week.
PDPSSA Athletics Carnival
This week PPS students attended the PDPSSA District Athletics Carnival which was held at Coburg Athletics Track. The weather conditions were perfect for students to do their best. PPS dominated the relays, high jump and long distance events. Overall PPS were the winning school on the day. Students who placed in the top two of their events will progress through to the Darebin Divisional Athletics Carnival which will be held in Week 9.
Divisional Championships
In Terms 3 our teams that progressed through from district competition have moved on to play the next stages. Our girls tee ball played a divisional game at PPS against Thomastown PS where we proved to be too good. This meant that they progressed through to the NMR Regional Championships held at Mill Park Softball Reserve. There were five teams with a round robin tournament. The team went into the last game needing to beat the undefeated side to force a three way tie at the top of the table. PPS ended up losing the game 8-7 and gave it everything they had. The event coordinator came over and was very impressed with the way the team held themselves throughout the day. They should be proud!
Our mixed netball team also attended divisional competition where they were too good on the day really showing good form leading into the NMR Regional Championship. The team faced a tough ask in the first game playing a team that were state winners last year. They fought hard being in front for a lot of the game just to fall short in the final few minutes. The team finished up in third place and came away with confidence and a great experience.
Finally…
A big thank you to all the volunteers that have helped throughout the year so far. All the events and programs would not run as smoothly without out you all!
