Grade  4 Report

Potato Olympics

With the buzz and excitement of the Olympics, Grade 4 created our own sporting competition to link to the Measurement unit in Maths.

“THE POTATO OLYMPICS 2024” commenced in Week 4 with much excitement and curiosity. Each student brought in and created their own potato Olympian to see which spud would take out gold in a variety of events!

The highly anticipated events were the sprint, high jump and high dive and some classes even tried shot put. We used lots of measuring instruments and measured mass, length and volume during our events.

The Grade 4 children loved this Olympics Maths unit!

“It was funny when they started to turn green!”

“I loved decorating my potato Olympian, it had a headband”

“My Olympian had muscles”

“We had to take off the legs and arms for the events”

“My potato won the high dive by making the biggest splash!”

“The catapult for the high jump was fun but not very accurate!”

“I liked using the slo-mo filming to find how high the potatoes flew”
