Year 3/4

Year 3/4 Thrives in Term Three: Adventure, Learning, and Creative Triumphs!

The 3/4 team is excited to share some of the wonderful activities and achievements our students have been involved in this term.

Earlier this term, our whole Learning Community came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week with a special project. Students designed and created printed gum leaves, which they decorated with Aboriginal symbols. These have been collated and put on display within our Learning Community and the buzz from students during these times was amazing to witness! This wreath not only highlights the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples but also symbolises protection and unity—values that are central to our community.

In English, we’re currently delving into the beloved classic Charlotte’s Web, written by E.B White. Alongside this literary journey, both the teachers and students have been exploring six comprehension strategies to enhance reading skills that we will be using at Orchard Park. This term, we have spent time focusing specifically on predicting, summarising, clarifying, and comprehension monitoring (which includes making inferences and connections to self, texts and the world). Our narrative writing sessions have also been a great opportunity for students to experiment with alternative adjectives to bring their characters and settings to life.

In Mathematics, students have explored fractions, shapes, and probability through engaging activities. A task that really stood out was when students investigated 2D shapes based on a given number of sides or corners, leading to creative problem-solving and multiple solutions. It’s been fantastic to see them embrace these rich tasks with such enthusiasm and curiosity.

Many of our Year 3/4 students attended our adventurous camp at Forest Lodge. Activities such as low ropes, the giant swing, flying fox, archery, hut building, and bush cooking offered them opportunities to challenge themselves and develop new skills. It was wonderful to see the students embrace the learning pit, enjoy these enriching experiences and showcase their personalities outside of a school environment.

Our students have also been shining brightly in their performing arts sessions. They worked diligently on their dance routines for the school concert, and it was heartwarming to see their smiles as they performed. The concert was a true celebration of their hard work and creativity.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication and enthusiasm our students continue to show. Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement. Here’s to more exciting learning adventures ahead!
