From the Principal

Mr Torpey

St Justin’s Primary School acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia's First People and Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which our school stands.

We pay our respects to the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation, and their elders past and present, and emerging as we continue to proudly live and learn on their land.

St Justin's Primary School - Celebrating 40 years of Catholic Education

Dear Families and Friends,

Confirmation

Congratulations to our Year 6 students and Parish Candidates who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Wednesday night. Our two Masses, celebrated by Bishop Tomlinson and Fr Andrew, were a beautiful celebration involving many families and friends. A special thank you to all involved, especially our altar servers and our school choir. Thanks to Mrs Snell, Staff, Elizabeth and Jeanne from the parish for their support in helping prepare our students for Confirmation. Thanks also to all the families and friends who support the students as they continue on their faith journey.

Father's Day

Yesterday at St Justin's we celebrated Father's Day. The day started with a breakfast and activities, followed by a classroom prayer. It was great to see so many turn up and I'm sure the children enjoyed spending quality time with others.

Thanks to all those who helped out, especially Mrs Wegmann and staff for planning the activities, the Parents and Friends for supplying the breakfast and Tony and helpers for a fabulous BBQ breakfast. Thanks also to the Russo family and El Samad family for the beautiful fruit donations - it was a great way to celebrate.

We wish all of our dads and grandads a very special day on Sunday.

Father's Day Stall

Today the children had the opportunity to purchase that special gift for their dads or grandads. A special thanks to Sandra G, Sandra F, Monita, Rita, Annick, Talar, Narelle and Michelina. These things don’t just happen - they are the result of much planning and preparing well in advance. As always, we are extremely grateful for all those who do so much to help our community.

Fair on the Hill

Our Annual St Justin's Fair on the Hill is fast approaching with an amazing amount of work already done. Remember it is being held on Saturday 9th November 2024 from 11:00am-4:00pm.

We are currently looking for a coordinator for the Milk Shake Stall. We have milk shakers, a number of enthusiastic Year 6 students - we just need someone to coordinate milk, ice-cream, flavourings and a creative way of setting up a stall. If you are interested, please contact the committee at stjustinsfair@gmail.com.

This is also a good time to check your Working with Children Checks - our data base indicates that some have already expired and others are close to expiring - we would hate you to be rushing to volunteer only to discover your WWCC in no longer valid. For more information, please visit WWCC. Please remember that all volunteers will require a WWCC.

Early next term, we will be calling for donations. These will include:

  • Blocks of chocolates for the Choc Toss
  • Lucky Jars (more information to follow)

We have set up 2 Return-it Bins to help raise money to support our community - one bin can be found outside the church and the other outside the Wheeler Wing, near the Undercover Area. We also realised yesterday after the Fathers Day Breakfast that juice boxes also attract a 10c refund - into the purple bin they went.

We have also set up bins for our pre-loved books and toy stall - the bins are located in the corridor outside the staffroom - all donations in good condition will be much appreciated.

As always, we truely appreciate everyone's support - this event could not take place without everyone helping out.

Art Show

Our bi-annual Art Show is fast approaching and will be held from Monday Sept 2nd - Thursday Sept 5th in the PAC. Our Opening Ceremony will be held on Monday 2nd September at 2:45pm in the Undercover Area (please note the change in time: 2:30pm to 2:45pm) - everyone welcome. The Art Show will coincide with our Student Led Conferences, at which time, families are welcome to check out the work of our amazing artists. A sausage sizzle ($3 each), served from the Outdoor Kitchen, will be available from 3:30pm - 6:00pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (if you are able to help Mr T, please let him know) and three beautiful hampers will also be raffled (2 tickets for $5 or 5 tickets for $10) - tap facilities available. All proceeds go towards the running costs of the Art Show. For more information, please refer to the invitation sent home this week or our Art Show page in our newsletter.

Please note: with our Art Show in the PAC next week, Out of Hours School Care (OHSC) - Camp Australia, will be located in the Italian Room/Art Room. Parents can park in the staff car park or basketball court and enter the north side of the school building - see map below.

Art & Craft Hampers

A big thank you to Melbourne Office Supplies and COS  for their kind donations and sponsoring our Art Show Art & Craft Hampers.

Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences will take place next week, commencing Monday 2nd September at school in your child's classroom (except 5WM who have different dates during Mrs Wood's leave). These meetings are face to face with the student, parents and teacher. For more information, please check out the "Student Led Conferences" page in our newsletter.

Our Year 3-6 students participated in the Prime Minister's Spelling Bee Challenge earlier this term. Congratulations to William K in Year 3 for successfully progressing to the state final!

School Fees

A reminder that all School Fees are due to be finalised by Tuesday 31st October

There is an expectation that families make progress payments throughout the year and if intending to make payment on the due date that you reachout to the school to advise us so that we can plan ahead.  With families keeping up with payments or keeping in contact with us in regards to fees or if you are requesting assistance this allows us to maintain activities and programs we already have in place at St. Justin's. We would greatly appreciate your support in regards to being on top of your fees.

As is our ongoing practice, should any family’s financial situation have changed, please contact Patrick Torpey or office staff on 9561 7644 or email office@sjwheelershill.catholic.edu.au to discuss your options.
