Waste Free Wednesday
Waste Free Wednesday
The STEM and Environment Captains shared this in our assembly this morning, so if you missed it, here are the main points.
The biggest factor for starting this Waste Free Wednesday is all of the rubbish and plastic left in the yard. Most people don't care to go to the bin and just drop their rubbish on our playground and one way we have thought of stopping this is having a day a week where all the families would try to pack nude fruits or reusable containers with no single-use items. There are lots of Nude Food recipes are out there so we’ll try to find some really easy ones to find share with you. It might be a fun Sunday afternoon activity to get in the kitchen and make some delicious fruit with the children. Here is a website that has some ideas to start: nudie rudie lunchbox.com.au.
One simple change could be to buy something in bulk and then use smaller, reusable containers to send it to school. This has the triple effect of only one type of packaging being used, often that packaging is much easier to repurpose and saves money. For example, buying a large, 700g jar of Two Fruits from Coles is $5.00 ($7.16 per kg) compared with buying the smaller 2 x 170g tubs for $4.80 ($13.82 per kg). The larger jar with a screw top lid has many ways it can be reused in the house before finding its way to the bin.
