SCIENCE WEEK!
What a huge and fun week at Vermont Secondary College for Science week.
Kicked off on Monday with a Science Booklet, followed by our surprise flash-mobs around the school during Tuesday lunchtime.
On Thursday we had lots of teams of students try out their science skills to solve the escape room! Congratulations to all of the students who solved the puzzles and walked away with a prize.
On Friday we launched our design competition, and we look forward to seeing the entries on Friday 13th of September!! Get your entries to Mrs Schulz!
Please see below the details of the competition and check out Compass for more information!
SCIENCE WEIRD FACT
Lobster blood is colourless until it's exposed to oxygen.
TELSTRA LABS TOUR
On the Tuesday the 20th of September, Stephanie, Celine and I (three of this years’ science leaders) got to go on a tour of Telstra Labs in the city! This was one of the prizes for placing in top three of Superhack, an engineering competition. We competed over two days during the last school holidays and had an amazing time learning new skills and getting to apply them! Getting to tour Telstra Labs was also an amazing experience! We got insight into what Telstra does as a company and what their plans are for the future. The 5G network, fibre optic sensors and the use of VR to train firefighters were among the things we got to see. We had a blast and encourage other students to also pursue opportunities in science and STEM!
MEET THE SCIENCE LEADERS
Hello, I’m one of your Year 11 Science Leaders for 2024 and I’m very excited to fulfil this role to the very best of my ability! I take Physics, Chemistry and AP Biology, all because of my life long love for the sciences. They’ve always been an endless whirlpool of knowledge and questions, ready to be used to benefit our world! I personally hope to continue to pursue the sciences in my tertiary education, aiming to help people by entering the medical field. I’d love to be able to encourage people at VSC to discover and pursue their passions in all the science fields with the help of the amazing science resources and opportunities at this school!
