Griffins Basketball Pink Round
The 23/24 Basketball season is now well underway with 28 teams representing Griffins ranging from Year Two to Vets. It is great to see our basketball group widening out through the Great Southern community with nearly half of our members coming from outside GSG. The ABA is continuing to improve, with communication and contributions from the clubs this year including a grading meeting after Round Three to nut out any final grade changes. Round Five saw the basketball community raising awareness and funds for Breast Cancer with players donating a gold coin in return for wearing something pink.
Thank you to all teams supporting this great cause.

Basketball Carnival
In Week Four on Thursday, the 7-10 boys and girls had the basketball carnival at ALAC. Our boy’s teams included two divisions and A team and a B team. The A boys, alongside coach Mr Hamminga, had a long hot day inside the courts unfortunately without winning any games, although we were very competitive, we had lots of fun. The teams that we played against were, Denmark, ASHS, NASHS and Bethel. One of my highlights was against ASHS when Charlie Sulzberger drained a great 3pt shot. The B boys, alongside coach Kevin Sibasado, were a bit more successful than us, winning one out of the four games. I also heard that they were very competitive and had lots of fun as well.
The A grade girls came out with one win and one draw out of our four games. One of our great games was against the NASHS girls which ended in a tie, but the girls had an amazing game with some nice threes from Emily Harvey and Sophie Panizza, and some amazing mid ranges from Sophie Pearson. The division two girls came out with a win against ASHS girls, which was an amazing game with a lot of teamwork and effort. Overall all it was a great day and a massive thank you to Mr Scott, Mrs Sprigg, Mr Hamminga, Luke Harvey, Faith Bin Omar and Reagan Warren for their efforts to make this day possible.

Primary School Athletics
This year’s carnival was a huge success with the sun shining and smiles on the children’s faces we witnessed some truly remarkable races with competition at a very high level. There was a lot of energy at the start of the day with House Leaders inspiring their houses with some gritty war cries. This really set the tone for the rest of the day.
Thank you to the ECC staff running the Kindergarten to Year Two carnival making sure there was maximum participation and enjoyment. Throughout all events the sportsmanship shown was amazing with students looking after one another throughout the whole day. One of the highlights would have been the Kindy races, with pirouettes and backwards running on display all completed with huge beaming smiles.
Thank you to all staff who helped and also to the parents who attended to support the children. Without your help, the event would not have run as smoothly as it did.
