Primary School
Today Primary School students had a taster of next year with our annual Orientation Day and excitedly greeted students who will begin with us next year. The morning was spent in their 2024 classrooms as they became orientated with the fun and expectations of their next year level.
Interschool Athletics
Yesterday our Interschool Athletics team travelled to North Road to compete, supported by Mr Stephen Berryman, Mr Geoff Hardey and Mr Paul Osborne, and Gap students Mae Botha and Tiffany Kok. Our students did well on the track and field and most importantly, showcased our school values and good sportsmanship. Great Southern Grammar came second overall and shared in the success of individual championships. Well done to Edith De Jonge (Year Four Champion Girl), Elora Moodie (Year Four Runner-Up Champion girl), Ruth Toomey (Year Five Champion Girl) and Robbie Fergie (Year Five Champion Boy).
House Leaders
On Monday, our Years Three to Six students met in their Houses to vote for the 2024 House Leaders. Our Year Fives have been working hard to campaign this term and I look forward to announcing our 2024 Leaders at our Primary School Awards Assembly in Week Nine.
Swimming Lessons
For the next two weeks our students from Pre-Primary to Year Six will bus into town each day to attend their swimming lessons, a vital part of our Physical Education programme given Albany’s idyllic location to the ocean. To ensure a smooth running of the programme, we strongly encourage families to label all items – including goggles, socks, towels, shoes, bathers and clothing and let us know before we leave each day if students are being collected from the pool so we can take their school bags on the bus. Caregivers can sign students out from the pool with a supervising teacher but must do this before the bus leaves ALAC or students will return to school with their class. We will have alternative lunch and recess times and students often require some extra snacks during this time.
Students are to wear their PE uniform for the entire two weeks.
Lesson times are as follows:
Pre-Primary, Year Three and Year Six: 12.15pm to 12.55pm
Years One, Two, Four and Five: 1.00pm to 1.40pm
Parents are welcome to come and watch.
Year Six Market Day Stall
Our Year Six students have been learning about economics, business plans, needs and wants, trade offs and opportunity cost. To action this learning as part of their inquiry, they are running a Christmas Market Day Stall on Thursday 23 November (Week Seven). Students from Kindergarten to Year Six are welcome to purchase one or two handmade (by the Year Sixes) Christmas gifts for their families. Gifts will be sorted into price categories of $2, $3, $4 and $5. For our ECC students wishing to purchase from the stall, we ask that they please come with their money in individual envelopes with the price of the gift labelled on the envelope that they are allowed to purchase. Teachers can then line them up at that desk to make the stall run smoothly. If students would like to purchase two gifts, please have that indicated e.g. 2 x $2 gifts or 1 x $5 gift. Gifts will come home already wrapped, ready to place under your tree at home. ECC students will come just before recess and Years Three to Six will be able to purchase at recess time.
School Values
Our Value for the past fortnight has been 'Respect'. Students at GSG are encouraged to show respect to themselves, others and the environment. Well done to our students who were awarded certificates for showcasing this value: Annie Newman, Laily Wrobel, Maddy Hull, Blythe Marmion and Macy Emberson.
