Literacy

Scrapbooking:

We have been working incredibly hard to finalise our Scrapbooks and we can’t wait to welcome you in to our classrooms on Friday, 15th December to see our hard work and reflect on our time at Lysterfield Primary School.

Valedictorian Speeches:

Congratulations to Aravind who was the winner of our Speaking and Listening Valedictorian Speech this year. Aravind will present his speech at our Graduation and at the final assembly of the year.

Maths

Over the last couple of weeks the Year 6 students have been learning about 3D shapes, nets of 3D shapes and properties of 3D shapes (faces, vertices, edges).

They have taken this knowledge and began to design Robots for a toy competition. This requires them to do a 2D design of their robot, before drawing the nets and creating these into 3D shapes to construct their robots.

We asked a couple of grade 6 students to explain how they came up with their designs and this is what they said:

“My design came from wanting it to be different and fun, whilst including all different shapes. I also wanted to get into the festive spirit so added a Santa hat”

“I wanted to create a BIG design! I wanted to trial using as many different shapes as I possibly could”

Below are some photos of their 2D designs, and we can not wait to see their 3D Robots completed next week!

Inquiry

On Wednesday, 6th December we held our LPS Market Day. What a success it was! We are so proud of the effort that our Senior School students went to to make this a successful day in raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation. We raised a total of……

$3784

Well done to everyone involved and thank you to all parents and staff for your support for this day. It was not only a fun day, but it enhanced our student’s learning about:

  • Entrepreneurialism
  • Financial Maths
  • Wants and Needs
  • Social Justice

Sport

On Tuesday 5th December, some of our boys represented LPS at the Hooptime State Basketball competition. Although not all of the games went our way, the boys did LPS very proud, put everything they had into each game, and played extremely well. It was a great day and the team is now in the top 20 out of 400 across our state, what an achievement!
