Level 5 & 6 Wonga Weekly

Week 9, Term 4

🌿 READING AND VIEWING

Students will finish their Literature Circle novel and complete a summative task to share their understanding of the book. They will also be continuing their 'Little Lunch' character profile, creating a t-shirt that represents the character of their choice.

🪴What you can do at home:

We encourage your child to read independently as often as possible. Watch an episode of 'Little Lunch' together,  discuss the characters and the format of the episode.

🌿 WRITING

Students will be collaborating in groups to develop an idea, storyboard and write their own episode of 'Little Lunch'. They will be working towards filming this episode in the weeks to come. Grade 6 students will also be writing their graduation speeches.

🪴What you can do at home:

After watching a 'Little Lunch' episode at home, discuss the school yard problem and brainstorm other ideas that could happen during recess at school.

🌿 SPELLING AND GRAMMAR

To assist with the editing of their own writing, students are continuing to revise their skills of sentence structure and punctuation.

🌿 MATHS

🌱 Grade 6: Students are delving into algebra this week. They will learn about pro-numerals, substitution and finding a rule/pattern to represent it.

🌱 Grade 5: Students will be following directions to specific locations. They will be using grid references, landmarks and directional language to describe routes.

🪴What you can do at home:

We encourage students to use Mathletics to further develop their skills and understanding of the areas of maths outlined above.

🌿 CBL

🌱 Our Big Idea for Term Four is 'Discovery'.

🪴Our Essential Question is:

🌏 In what ways can digital technologies improve our lives?

🪴Our Guiding Questions are:

🌏 How have the discoveries of digital technologies changed the world?

🌏 How do the positive impacts of digital technologies compared with the negative impacts?

🌱 Students will be sharing what they have created on their 'About Me' app.

🌿 GRADUATION

Throughout the week Grade 6 students will be preparing for their graduation by writing and practising their speeches and song.

🌿 HOMEWORK

In addition to reading four times a week for at least 20 minutes, Mathletics and 'What you can do at home' recommendations above, this term:

🌱 Grade 5: Students should catch up on any unfinished 'Buddy Bag' tasks and purchase a small gift (maximum of $10). Students who have self nominated for House Captain should be working on their speech.

🌱 Grade 6: Students should be working through their Memory Book. Our suggested timeline for this is below. We ask that students don't bring their Memory Book to school until Friday 8th December, at the earliest.
