Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 9, Term 4

CBL

This week we will be presenting our challenge; 'Showcase your new scientific discoveries'. Students will be investigating an area that they are particularly interested in and planning how they will show their learning to others. We plan to showcase our learning on Friday 8th December from 2.30pm and we would like to invite parents and carers to visit our special science expo to help our students celebrate their great learning. Please keep an eye out for further details regarding our science expo, a wonderful way to celebrate the end of our CBL learning for the year.

READING

This week we will be reading traditional fairytales to help us pinpoint character traits. We will be thinking about how the character features not only on the outside, but also on the inside. We will be considering how the characters from these stories reflect traditional stereotypes.

What you can do at home

Revisit some traditional fairy tales that you may have at home in your bookshelves. Talk about the characters, do they play the villan, the victim or the hero?

WRITING

This week we will be focussing on writing from another perspective. We will also use fairytales as mentor texts during our writing time, thinking about writing the plot from one of the 'other' characters perspectives.

What you can do at home

Talk about the story, 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. Who are the characters? What perspective might each of the characters have about what really happened on the day that the troll was tossed into the river?

MATHS

This week we will continue focusing our maths thinking on many other areas of learning; map reading, location, data collection, and spending money. We will be presenting an exciting collection of tasks around a family day out at the zoo. Students will complete this task on their iPads, it is important that they come to school each day with this learning tool available.

What you can do at home

Encourage your child to spend some time each night exploring Mathletics to help revise many of the concepts that we have looked at throughout this year.
