We are all very excited about the upcoming camp experiences for our grade one and two students!

 

GRADE ONE -  'A ONEDERFUL CAMP' DAY - FRIDAY 1ST DECEMBER 

 

Payment and Permission now needs to be made on Sentral!

GRADE TWO -  DAY CAMP EXPERIENCE AT MT EVELYN - TUESDAY 5TH DECEMBER

📚 Reading 

This week it's time to start looking at the art of persuasion!! We will be looking at a variety of text types which are used to persuade and unpacking the structure and language.

Text types include 

  • TV commercials
  • Advertisements
  • Newspaper editorials
  • Personal opinion or thought pieces
  • Political speeches and literature
  • Songs and poems
  • Letters 

What can you do at home?

-Assist your child to read their take home book each night. 

-Read a variety of persuasive texts to your child

-Have your child point out the persuasive language

 

🔡 Grammar and vocabulary 

This week we will be looking at conjunctions (their type and their purpose). We will also be studying contractions.

 

What you can do at home?

-Find sentences which use conjunctions (and, but, or, so, since, for, because, as, yet, still, while, therefore - to name a few). Point them out and discuss their purpose.

-Find conjunctions and unpack the two words which have been combined and also notice the placement of the apostrophe.

 

📝 Writing 

We will be writing persuasive texts (just in time for Christmas!). Unpacking the structure of the different text types as well as studying the language used when persuading.

 

What can you do at home?

-Check your child is using the correct pencil grip (pointer finger on top).

-Practise writing sentences with a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence and a full stop at the end.

-Write persuasive sentences that include a contraction and a conjunction, please!

 

🔢  Maths 

It's time to take a deep dive into time!! It's all things time related this week - from seconds to millenniums, from reading analogue clocks to working out when events happen and time transitions. We will also look at conversion between seconds, minutes and hours. 

 

What can you do at home? 

-Practice skip counting patterns backwards especially 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s

Practice reading analogue clocks and discuss the time events start and finish.
