Literacy Celebrations at Westgrove

Reading

Over the past few weeks, Year Threes have been learning about poetry. They have investigated into the history of poems and explored the themes and topics poets use in their writing.  They looked at the structure of a poem and how to create a diamante, couplet, haiku, cinquain and free verse poem.

Students also focused on poetic devices to help create rhythm, enhance meaning or intensify a mood or feeling. They explored alliteration, onomatopoeia, personification and repetition and tried to include these devices in their own poems.
