What a jam-packed Term 2!

At our college, we are proud to offer a rich array of extracurricular activities that cater to the diverse interests of our students. From sporting competitions, public speaking, debating, and chess to musical performances and literature eisteddfods—there’s truly something for everyone. Training and practices took place during recess breaks, and we are continually inspired by the dedication and enthusiasm of students who give up their lunch breaks to participate. Signature events like the Year 12 Formal and the Athletics Carnival remain highlights of the school calendar and are a great way to round off the term.

A cornerstone of our approach to student behaviour is restorative practice. The staff at St Stephen’s aim to respond meaningfully to students' needs, working together with young people to help them grow, learn, and make positive behavioural choices. We stay committed to upholding the SSCC expectations while always encouraging reflection and change.

At St Stephen’s, we value continuous professional growth and reflection. As part of a school-wide initiative, we partnered with Caroline Blackley, the creator of the Four Dimensions framework, to enhance classroom interactions and gain feedback on what works well in our learning environments. This partnership aims to empower our teachers to be reflective practitioners and to support the ongoing pursuit of high standards in classroom practice.

In Week 7, staff participated in a whole-school scan, which provided valuable insights into our areas of strength and offered visual data to track growth over time. Our collaboration with the Four Dimensions framework reflects our commitment to making data-informed decisions. By analysing measurable data sets, we can confidently guide positive change while maintaining and celebrating the strengths of our college community.

Student voice plays a vital role in shaping our community. Through the Student Agency Team, home form representatives gather and share ideas from their peers. Recent student-led initiatives include exploring new seating arrangements, reviewing shade cover placements, and providing feedback on how to make the student diary more user-friendly for current and future cohorts.

This is a friendly reminder that the old sports shorts will be phased out at the end of 2025. As part of our 18-month transition, all students will be expected to wear the new sports shorts beginning in 2026. The sports shorts can be purchased in Mareeba at Tina’s Fashions.

Thank you to all students and families for supporting St Stephen’s expectations. Your partnership is truly valued as we work together to create a positive and nurturing environment for all.

I pray that families have a wonderful time together during the mid-year holidays, and we look forward to seeing your child back in term 3. Spending time with family is a precious gift, creating bonds and memories that last a lifetime.

‘Time together as a family is a gift.’ Joanna Gaines
