Nulung Kayn Kasi
Award Ceremony
Earlier this year, Danika was unable to attend the formal Nulung Kayn Kasi awards ceremony held at St Mary’s Catholic College. However, we were proud to celebrate and present her with her leadership badge during our recent NAIDOC Assembly — a fitting moment of recognition during a week focused on culture, pride, and leadership.
The name Nulung Kayn Kasi carries deep meaning — Nulung means “leader” in the Gimuy Walubarra Yidinji language, while Kayn Kasi translates to “young shoot” in Kalaw Kawaw Ya, a Torres Strait Islander language. The gathering itself was a powerful celebration of First Nations students from schools across the Cairns Diocese who have embraced leadership roles. It was inspiring to witness so many young mob stepping up, being acknowledged, and proudly representing their communities in a variety of leadership positions.
Congratulations, Danika!
