Year 12 Students Explore Mindfulness and Wisdom at Khacho Yulo Ling Buddhist Centre

As part of their Study of Religion curriculum, our Year 12 students recently had the unique opportunity to visit the Khacho Yulo Ling Buddhist Centre in Cairns, where they were warmly welcomed by Buddhist nun Venerable Rinchen.

Venerable Rinchen led an insightful session explaining key beliefs and practices of Tibetan Buddhism and students engaged in a guided meditation, learning techniques to focus the mind and cultivate inner calm. Venerable Rinchen spoke openly about her own spiritual journey and the importance of ethics, mindfulness, and compassion in Buddhist philosophy.

Students commented on how the experience gave them a new appreciation for inner stillness and ethical reflection and deepened their understanding of Buddhist teachings, while also encouraging meaningful discussion about the common values shared across faiths—kindness, respect for life, and the search for truth.

We extend our sincere thanks to Venerable Rinchen her generosity and hospitality. Experiences like this enrich the curriculum and invite students to think deeply about the worldviews that shape human experience.
