Learning & Teaching
“Step Up 24” and Senior Holiday Home Learning
The “Step Up 24 Program” is successfully underway and continues until Friday 1 December. Students have been applying themselves conscientiously to take advantage of the headstart provided. Teachers are reporting that good progress is being made and students have been engaging well with their new learning experiences.
The rationale for the program is to align the whole school, given the senior students have, for many years, commenced their next year's program at the end of the previous year. The whole school “Step Up 24 Program” ensures that timetable clashes are avoided for teachers and that all students are able to finish the year productively, making a start on their 2024 learning programs, developing new skills and capabilities. All students are expected to attend the full "Step Up 24 Program".
For Year 11 and 12 students, holiday home learning tasks will be set in all subjects and these can be accessed through SEQTA Learn and Engage. It is essential that all students complete these tasks, including the reading of English novels, prior to their first classes in 2024. As indicated in the VCE and VCE - VM Expectations Letters, sent to all families and students via Operoo, this is a non-negotiable requirement and failure to complete set tasks will result in an interview with the Senior Certificates Panel. It is also essential that all students and parents/guardians sign the VCE or VCE - VM expectations response form by Tuesday 28 November.
Semester Reports and Academic Achievement
With 2023 assessments generally completed, staff are preparing the Semester 2 Reports. These should be available for students in Years 7 to 11, 2023, on the SEQTA Engage Parent Portal on Friday 8 December. Please take the time to read over these reports carefully and discuss them with your daughter. This information should be used to recognise progress, achievement, identify areas for improvement and to set goals for 2024.
Follow-up academic performance interviews will be scheduled for students who have performed poorly in multiple subjects or examinations. These interviews will enable us to collaboratively review the student’s pathway and formulate strategies for improvement. We will also use the information in these reports to identify students who have excelled academically and who have demonstrated exemplary learning behaviours. Academic Excellence and Marian Learner Certificates will be presented at assemblies, early in 2024.
