Project Runway

As part of the Project Runway course, we constructed a patch bear using sustainable practices. This meant using recycled materials to form the pattern and pieces for the bear. This process involved collaborating with our classmates to obtain different left over fabrics from our other projects to form the ears, feet, face, body, etc of our patch bear. During the cutting process we ensured that when following the bear patterns, we preserved as much usable material as possible. Many of us enjoyed this project as it allowed us to expand our knowledge of sustainability in textiles and how to incorporate these techniques to improve the fashion industry.

In our textiles elective, Project Runway, we were given the opportunity to create teddy bears to be paired with our hand-made pyjamas. These bears were created using left-over fabric from other projects. Through this project, we were able to learn how to practice sustainability and the effects of fast fashion. We were also taught how to hand sew the limbs of the bear together and learned some new sewing techniques on the sewing machine and how to cut patterns the right way. Above all, we learnt about the importance of sustainable fashion.

As part of the Project Runway course, we were introduced to the concept of sustainability in fashion and were given the opportunity to incorporate sustainability when making our patch bears. The teddies were made from scraps of fabric leftover from the pyjama set we had made earlier in the semester. We learnt many sewing techniques used, while also being able to learn about eco-friendly practices in the fashion industry. The activity was educational while also being fun and enjoyable, and we gained a lot of knowledge in this area.
