Learning Centre One

And that's a WRAP! The 2023 schooling year has come to an end and we couldn’t be anymore excited at the achievements that the preps have made this year! We have seen them grow in leaps and bounds and we couldn’t be anymore proud of all they have accomplished. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support. We hope that you have a happy and Holy Christmas! May you have a wonderful start to 2024! See you back on Thursday 1st February, 2024.

HIGHLIGHTS OF 2023

Sam: This year has been one of many highlights for Prep Orange! The preps were quick to settle into the routines and expectations of the learning space and enjoyed many fun activities such as making their own ‘Wombat Stew’ and earning money to spend at a pretend shop. We were also fortunate enough to attend two extremely enjoyable excursions this year: The Melbourne Zoo and the Cinemas where we saw the film Elementals. I am so proud of my students and all of the effort they have placed in their learning this year. Although it has flown by so fast, many fun moments were had throughout the year and many happy memories have been made!

Donna: In 2023 our class embarked on their first year of primary school, creating many cherished memories. We had the joy of taking Snowball home, we  celebrated 100 days of prep, dressed up as superheroes, and explored our diverse backgrounds on Multicultural day. Our adventures took us to the Melbourne zoo, where we saw incredible animals, and to the cinemas where we watched Elemental. We engaged in inquiry projects and had the opportunity to share our discoveries with our families and peers.  A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to making 2023 such an amazing year and well done to all the students of Prep Blue, I am so proud of each and everyone of you!

Imogen:  Prep White had a very eventful 2023 and first year of Prep. We had many exciting adventures, such as Farm Day, Athletics Day, Preps in Pyjamas evening, 100 Days of School and the Colour Run just to name a few. We also went on our first excursions to Melbourne Zoo and Village Cinemas at the plaza to watch Elemental. Prep White has learnt so much over the year and have grown greatly from their first day back in January. Well done to all the students in Prep White for a fantastic year full of learning, laughs and fun.

Kiah: What a year it has been! I cannot believe how fast the year has gone!

It has been a pleasure working with the preps this year and having such a dynamic role that has enabled me to work across all 3 cohorts. I have had such great fulfillment watching the students grow and learn. They have all applied themselves well into the sessions I work with them and I have had the pleasure of being one of the teachers to support them in their 1st year of schooling. Preps, I wish you all the best as your new adventure awaits you in 2024 as year ones! Thank you for a fantastic year, I can't wait to see what you achieve next year!

Tina: Some of the Highlights in my Enrichment Group was the confidence the students gained over the year in learning the letters and sounds in Phonics. They participated in different activities which helped them understand the relationship of letter, sound, word and sentence. They enjoyed the Language experience sessions as we made fairy bread, pizza, walked to the playground as they participated well in a team.

The Maths Group students participated 1well in learning new games, acquiring skills and concepts by problem solving and being challenged. Super effort by all the students. Good lunch preps, all the best for 2024!

Learning Centre Two

How the year has flown by and it is now time for us to tie it up in a bow and look back fondly on the many wonderful memories we have made together. We are all grateful for the experiences we've shared in 2023 and have certainly ended the year with a bang.

The staff from LC2 would like to wish all of our students and their families a merry Christmas filled with love and joy, and a safe and happy New Year.

ADVENTURE PARK

On Wednesday, we travelled down the highway to Adventure Park with the Year 6 students. Each year, this day is gifted to the students from the school as a way of saying thank you for their efforts over the years.

It was a stormy day to begin with and this meant the rides were closed for a period of time. The students were disappointed but waited patiently and remained resilient the whole time. Eventually, the sun shone and we hit the water with great gusto. Screams of delight were heard coming down the waterslides and the not-so-lazy river was a big hit with everyone. A fantastic time was had by all!!

YEAR 6 GRADUATION

Last night, the Year 6 students and their families gathered in the hall for our Graduation Mass. It was a beautiful ceremony where our seniors were farewelled in style. It was a lovely culmination of their primary school years. The school candle was also handed over to our new 2024 school captains.

Yesterday was an emotional day for our students and teachers however it began with excitement as the 6s were welcomed in through a balloon garland and streamers. Please go onto Dojo to see a video of the guard of honour given by the year 5 students to the 6s.

Good luck and best wishes to our amazing Year 6s. It has been an absolute pleasure watching you grow and being a part of your learning journey!!

And that is a wrap on 2023!  Read below about some exciting adventures in Year 1/2

Year 1/2 White

This year has been filled with lots of fun and excitement. Our class has enjoyed doing a range of activities, such as; making a scarecrow for our farm day or making monster cookies based on the book ‘There’s a monster at the end of this book’. There have been so many highlights that it was hard for the class to choose which one was their favourite. One of the highlights chosen by the class was the cupcake show (Sienna/ Alex/ Manny), the Fun Run (Athena/ Naod) or the  Farm day (Vedanth). When they were asked what they were proud of, most of them said “themselves”, which was amazing to hear them feeling confident of themselves and their work.

Our class is very excited for the end of the year and is looking forward to Christmas and the holidays with their famlies. Here’s a few Christmas highlights for the week:

1/2 Orange

This year, 1/2 Orange has learnt lots of different things. From arrays to fractions. From animals to habitats. From writing stories to understanding Fairy Tales. From God to technology.

We have created so many amazing things, like dioramas, peacocks, advertisements and cupcakes.

We have explored ACMI, the Melbourne Zoo, Fairy Park and the Wetlands.

But what makes us special

We love to laugh and tell jokes. We support each other and are resilient with our learning. We have an amazing growth mindset. We play with each other and help each other out. We have a wonderful teacher who makes learning fun and interesting and supports us every day. We have had the best year ever!

1/2 Yellow

2023 has been a great year for 1/2 Yellow! We’ve learned so much including money, fractions, persuasive writing and information reports, to name a few! We have been lucky enough to go on lots of different excursions including ACMI, Fairy Park and Melbourne Zoo. Not only that, we have had some very exciting events take place where we have been able to dress up and get creative! Highlights include our Farm Day with a petting zoo, the Colour Run and Multicultural Day. 1/2 Yellow have all been such a team this year, we have helped each other grow and become our best selves! We have shown our school values of respect, resilience and responsibility in all that we do. We have had the best year ever! Thank you to all the students, parents and carers for the support this year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! - Tasmin.

Hello from 1-2 Red

What a jam-packed year! We are definitely ready for the holidays. We have learnt so much over the last year and are ready for a new challenge in a new grade next year!!

We have had an exciting year with so many highlights. Some of our events included our Farm Day with a petting zoo, Athletes Day, visiting ACMI, Melbourne Zoo and Fairy Park. During Religion, we further explored our relationship with God and our interactions with him on a daily basis. Our Inquiry unit led us to learn about animals and their habitats by making dioramas. Make sure you ask your child what their highlight of the year was. Thank you to all the students, parents and carers for such a great year!! Merry Christmas – Jannine

1/2 Green

Wow! What a fun Year it’s been for 1/2 Green! We started the year with our farm theme where we created our scarecrow that the students named “Michael Jackson”! We had our farm day where the students got to experience some small farm animals, I think they particularly liked the goats and bunnies! Then we had our Fairytale theme in Term 2 where we enjoyed creating our own stories and our highlight of visiting Fairy Park! Term 3 saw us learning all about facts about animals and their habitats. The children enjoyed creating their own information report and diorama about their chosen animal and then visiting the Melbourne Zoo! Lastly, in Term 4 we explored Media Art where the students created their own stories and attempted to turn them into Media books. We’ve had fun finishing the year learning about Advent and completing some Christmas activities and of course having our Elf Visit! Thanks to all students, parents and carers for a wonderful year! I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year! - Marilyn 🎄🎄

1/2 Blue

WOW what a year it was in grade 1/2 Blue in 2023! Coming into the year with a brand new teacher, new peers and a new learning centre for some would have been very daunting but overall, we had so much fun, laughter and excitement together! We enjoyed many activities, excursions and special days together such as Farm Day, Fairy Park, Melbourne Zoo, ACMI, Colour Run, Book Week, Multicultural Day and Christmas Dress Up Day. 1/2 Blue has been able to grasp new concepts, learn and develop different skills throughout the year. We have made so many new friends in 2023 and most importantly, we have made many lifelong memories together. Learning Centre Four

As our final newsletter entry, we thought it would be nice to reflect on the year we have had, and all of the amazing experiences we have enjoyed in 2023.  Each learning group has written a brief paragraph of their 'highlights of the year'. We hope you enjoy this look back on Years 3/4 in 2023.

Ben's Learning Group

The school year of 2023 was a whirlwind of excitement and learning, filled with memorable experiences that sparked joy and curiosity among the students of 3/4. One of our most thrilling outings was the visit to Werribee Zoo, where young minds marvelled at the diverse array of animals and learned about conservation efforts firsthand. Equally captivating was the trip to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), where the magic of storytelling through film and technology came alive, igniting the imagination of the students.

The school's community spirit shone brightly during the whole-school athletics day, where cheers echoed across the field as students participated in various track and field events, fostering teamwork and sportsmanship. Another colourful and exhilarating event was the annual colour run, where laughter and vibrant hues filled the air as students joyously dashed through a kaleidoscope of colours, promoting health and well-being.

Celebrating diversity and cultural richness, Multicultural Day was a true celebration of unity, with students proudly showcasing their heritage through food, music, and traditional attire. Book Week ignited a passion for reading and imagination, with students embracing their favourite literary characters, diving into storytelling sessions, and engaging in creative activities centered around books. And who could forget the much-anticipated 3/4 camp? It was a time of adventure and camaraderie, where friendships were forged through outdoor activities and shared experiences, leaving an indelible mark on each student's memory.

Emma's Learning Group

When we arrived at the zoo we saw a zookeeper who showed us around the zoo and we saw some animals like: lions, gorillas, monkeys and we had lots of fun! (Samuel & Isabelle)

In the dance incursion we made a dance with the 3/4s. During the dance we had to do a bunch of different kinds of dance moves. The 3/4s got in their class groups to participate in all the different kinds of dance moves! (Aaliyah & Meleena)

In the learning expo, each student took 2-4 weeks to make their projects for the expo. We were focusing on Australian animals, everyone had a chosen animal they were researching about. On the last day of term 3, we had our expo. Parents/families came to visit, see our work & rate our work out of 10. (Alicia & Aakruthi)

Hayley's Learning Group

There have been plenty of highlights from our amazing year in 3/4 Yellow, this is only a snapshot of our year. Way back in term 1 we explored different health topics,  and as a class we made rice paper rolls with Milla. We also got to know each other and all the staff in LC4.

Term 2 was a very busy term,  we made ANZAC biscuits, fairy bread and tacos as a learning group. Hayley introduced us to the game of Ga which Zach and Hayley have tried to beat us at for the rest of the year. We explored different types of technology and created our very own Google site. We also had the OLSC colour run where we all were covered in colour. And the best part of the day was Amanda, John and Justin were slimed by some students. We even had a dance workshop where we learnt the steps to a Queen song

Term 3 saw us go on our first excursion for the year, we all went to the Werribee Zoo, where we got up close and personal with some native Australian animals as well as the new lion cubs, gorilla’s,  giraffe,  emus, koalas and wallabies. Book week also happened and we all dressed up in different costumes from books and did lots of craft activities on the different books. We loved Bev and Kev and Franks red hat.

Finally term 4 saw us go to ACMI and the NGV, where we saw puppets, some things from around the twists, different tvs, films, flip books, games and some amazing Australian Art. We finished off the year with camp, where we all travelled to Camp Manyung, in Mount Eliza. We all loved the different activities from the giant swing, trivia night, risky kids, tree rolling, archery, crate climb and the flying fox to name a few. It was a great way to end the year getting to go away with our friends and teacher.

Beth's Learning Group

The school year in 3/4 Green was a tapestry of diverse experiences that will be unforgettable for years to come. One of the highlights was our thrilling excursion to Werribee Zoo, where we immersed ourselves in the wonders of the animal kingdom. The day was filled with awe and excitement as we observed exotic wildlife and engaged in hands-on learning about conservation. Multicultural Day was a kaleidoscope of traditions and customs, with each student proudly showcasing their heritage through vibrant displays and engaging activities. Another memorable excursion took us to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), where we delved into the fascinating world of film and digital media, gaining insights into the art of storytelling. As the school year unfolded, the anticipation peaked with our eagerly awaited camp, where we forged lasting bonds through shared adventures and challenges. Thank you to everyone in the class who made it such a wonderful year and I wish all of the students the best on their learning journeys in the future.

Adam's Learning Group

The students of 3/4 Blue had such an amazing 2023 school year. There were incursions, excursions, school events, sporting events and a school camp. Students appreciated learning science and engineering skills from the team at West Gate Kids during an incursion. The 3/4's also enjoyed their excursions to Werribee Zoo and ACMI. Some of the other great highlights of the year included events held at OLSC including the Colour Run, School Disco, Athletics Day, and Multicultural Day. A number of students from our learning group were selected to represent OLSC at the AFL 9’s and Hoop Time Basketball. By far the biggest event of the year for the 3/4 students was the school camp at Camp Manyung in Mount Eliza. Students were able to learn a great deal about themselves and had so much fun. May these memories be looked upo0n with great fondness in the years to follow.

Elizabeth's Learning Group

Looking back over 2023 in LC4 the highlights that we can remember are Camp, making new friends, school fun run, ACMI, National Gallery of Victoria, ANZAC Day, Hot Dog Day and Pancake Tuesday. We have enjoyed every moment of these events and are looking forward to new experiences in the future. These life memories are implanted in our hearts and minds forever.
