Principal's Chat

Term 4, Week 11 - Friday 15th December, 2023

Good afternoon OLSC families

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

And that's a wrap for 2023.  As we come to the end of another remarkable year at Our Lady of the Southern Cross, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we have all embarked upon together. It has been a year filled with challenges, growth, and countless achievements, and I am immensely proud of each and every one of our students.

Our students have continued to demonstrate their commitment to our school's core values of respect, resilience and responsibility and this is evident in their passion for learning. They have embraced new ways of learning and have shown great determination in reaching their academic goals. Their enthusiasm and commitment to their studies and al school events have been truly inspiring.

I would also like to acknowledge the unwavering dedication of our teachers and support staff. Throughout this year, they have gone above and beyond to ensure our students receive the highest quality education, both academically and emotionally. Their tireless efforts have created a safe and nurturing environment where students can thrive and grow.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the continuous support and involvement of our parents and guardians. Your partnership and engagement have been instrumental in fostering a strong sense of community and ensuring the success of our students. Your unwavering support is deeply appreciated, and we are grateful for the trust you have placed in us.

I wish each member of the school community a very happy and holy Christmas and a relaxing summer break.  I hope you all get to enjoy some quality time with your loved ones whether you are travelling on holidays or remaining at home.  As we approach the holiday season, I encourage everyone to take some time to rest, recharge, and spend quality time with loved ones. It is an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the year and set new goals for the future. Let us cherish the moments we have shared and look forward to the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.

Finally, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all members of the OLSC community. Your commitment, resilience, and spirit have made this year a truly memorable one. I am confident that together, we will continue to make great strides in the coming year and build an even stronger community.

Wishing you all a joyful and relaxing holiday season.

Justin

The Staff are Getting Quite Festive

Year 6 Graduation 2023

Last night we farewelled our 2023 Year 6 students with a graduation mass.

2024 School Leaders

The graduating school leaders have passed on the leadership of the school to the 2024 school captains and vice captains.  The badges were blessed by Father Albert as part of our liturgical celebration.  Congratulations to Ruby-Lee, Elson, Isabella and Andy - well done.

Departing Staff

We say farewell to 2 members of staff at the end of this year.  Alexandra Lawes and Lisa Margerison will be moving on next year.  We will also say 'see you later' to Marilyn as she undertakes 12 months leave.

Alexandra has decided to move back to the U.K to be closer to family.  Alexandra joined the OLSC staff in January 0f 2025.  She has taught in both junior and senior areas of the school and in this time has established many links and close relationships.

Lisa has been travelling form Geelong each day and is looking forward to spending far less time on the freeway and teaching closer to home.  Lisa joined our staff at the beginning of the 2018 school year and has been teaching in the 5/6 area.  She has been a great support to senior students as they prepare for their next steps in education.

Marilyn Edwards has decided to take a year off to further her studies and spend time with her family.  It is not a good bye to Marilyn but a 'see you later' and we look forward to her returning in 2025.

I am sure you all join me in wishing Alexandra and Lisa well in their next chapters and sincerely thank them for their time at OLSC and for their dedication and care to our students.
