News from Year Six

Welcome Back!
Our first unit of study this term is 'Weather'. Students have already been using the Meteye weather app to compare rainfall, humidity and wind in different locations in Australia. Check out your child's post on Seesaw to see this.
Please Bring Weather Station Materials
As part of their inquiry into Weather, students will be collecting and analysing weather data. They will work in small groups to construct a weather station - building a barometer to measure the air pressure, a rain gauge, a wind vane, and an anemometer to measure wind speed.
To assist in this project, we need some materials from home. Can you please rescue the following from your recycling:
- A 2-litre plastic drink bottle (we only need 3 more)
- A plastic container with a lid such as a small ice cream or large yoghurt tub (we need 7)
- A wide-mouthed glass jar (we need 7)
Thank you for your support.
Maths
This week we are learning about time. We are calculating elapsed time and reading timetables. On Tuesday, with Mr Foley, we looked at different Qantas flights and worked out their arrival times.
Writing
Now that we have finished reading 'A Ghost in My Suitcase', we are writing a persuasive text about the importance of understanding your family history. Celeste, the main character discovered she was from a long line of Ghost Hunters when she visited her grandmother in China. Please share any old family stories or histories with us!
Excursions
By now, you will have received notifications from nForma about 2 upcoming excursions for the Year 6s. The original message regarding transition day at UYSC had the wrong date written in one part of it. It was re-published with the correct day, 14 May (not March) today.
Just a reminder that we need students dropped at Lilydale station by 8.15 am for the Museum and IMax excursion. If you haven't organised this yet, you have 2 weeks to go before we head off. They will be collected by 4.00pm.
It seems that there are a number of students who do not yet have their medical details entered onto nForma. We use this information when preparing excursions. Please update this ASAP if you haven't yet done it.
Hope you all enjoyed your holidays.
