2025 School Theme- Why Team, Why Team Westbreen
Dear Westbreen Families,
Happy Harmony Day to everyone! It was wonderful to see so many splashes of orange around the school and the beautiful cultural dress as we celebrated a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home last Friday.
Last week also marked Neurodiversity Awareness Week, an opportunity to recognise the incredible strengths and talents of individuals with various neurological conditions, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, and dyslexia.

At Westbreen Primary School, our staff excel in supporting all students and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. This term, the staff have been focusing on learning adjustments in our classrooms and implementing new strategies, supported by their teams, as part of the region's new initiative on disability inclusion. More information will be provided to families in Term 2.
A new tiered funding model
A new funding model is being rolled out with more investment to help us support inclusive practices. The model will allow us to make the adjustments our students need to help with their participation, engagement and learning at school. It provides additional investment that our school can use to support groups of students like those with autism, ADHD and other learning difficulties.
Please note that this week, the staff will have Planning Week.
Teams will be working on planning teaching and learning opportunities for our students in Term 2. The specialist timetable will be adjusted that week to allow year-level teams time to collaborate and prepare these learning programs and opportunities.
Monday - Year 5/6
Tuesday - Foundation/ Specialist Team
Wednesday - Year 1/2

School Council Update
Thank you to all the school council members for attending our first meeting of 2025. During this meeting, we discussed the school council sub-committees for the year, which include:
- Finance
- Environment and Facilities
- Education
- Westbreen Parents & Friends
These sub-committees will begin meeting in Term 2 and will be open to all members of the Westbreen community. This is a great opportunity for those not on the school council to contribute to our school. If you are interested in joining one of these sub-committees, please email the school via westbreen.ps@education.vic.gov.au and we will provide you with the meeting dates and times. Thank you in advance for your help!
Class Captain and School Council Presentation at Assembly on Wednesday- Welcome to Leadership
Last Wednesday, we announced and presented our class captains and junior school council members to our student leadership team. The badges were presented by our School and House Captains. The beautiful weather in the morning allowed us to hold an outdoor assembly, which attracted a large presence of parents and carers to celebrate this milestone.
To our new leaders at Team Westbreen: Remember to lead strong with our beliefs and school values. We wish you all the best and look forward to your thoughts and ideas for making our school even better!
Reminder: Working Bee
Just a reminder to everyone that this Friday, March 28th, we will be holding our Term 1 Working Bee from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. Our goal is to weed and mulch specific areas of the school, so please bring a shovel and gloves to help out Team Westbreen. The school will provide zooper doopers for the children, as well as water and soft drinks for families. Thank you for your support!
Camp Dates for 2025

End of the Term
Just a reminder that Friday, April 4th, is the last day of term. Students will be dismissed from their classrooms earlier, at 2:15pm. We kindly ask all families to confirm pick-up or walking home arrangements with your children to avoid any confusion at the end of the day.
Team Westbreen, I wish you a wonderful week of learning. To all families celebrating Eid this weekend, both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, I hope you enjoy the feast as you break your fast.
Kind Regards,
Justin Lania
