Our Foundation students have been diving into the exciting world of visual arts! They have been developing their fine motor skills through hands-on activities like drawing, painting, and experimenting with different art tools.
One of our key focuses has been on primary colours—red, blue, and yellow. Students have been mixing, exploring, and discovering how these colours can create new ones. They have also been learning how to paint and draw lines, experimenting with straight, curved, zigzag, and wavy lines to create patterns and expressive artwork.
Beyond making marks on paper, students are also discussing their artwork—learning to share their creative choices, describe their process, and express what they enjoy about their creations. This helps them build confidence in their artistic voice and understand that art is a form of communication.
We are so proud of their enthusiasm and creativity! Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our artistic journey.
Our Year 1 students have been busy exploring the exciting world of colour! This term, they have been learning about primary and secondary colours and how they work together on the colour wheel. Using acrylic paints, students experimented with colour mixing, discovering how red, blue, and yellow can be combined to create new and exciting colours.
One of our favourite projects so far has been creating ice cream artworks! Students used their painted paper, and their knowledge of colour mixing, by cutting and arranging their pieces to form colourful and unique ice cream designs.
Alongside colour exploration, students have been learning about lines and patterns—practicing different types of lines and incorporating them into their artworks. They have also been developing their ability to describe their artistic choices, using vocabulary to talk about their lines and patterns.
It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experiment, create, and share their ideas! We can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
Our Year 2 students have been exploring colour and texture in their visual arts lessons! They have been working with acrylic paint to deepen their understanding of primary and secondary colours, focusing on achieving clear, vibrant colours through careful mixing and application.
To bring their learning to life, students painted recycled cardboard, transforming it into a bold and colourful surface. They then added wool and beads, creating exciting, textured artworks that combine colour with pattern and dimension. This hands-on process encouraged students to experiment with different materials and think creatively about how art can be constructed.
Throughout the project, students have been developing their artistic vocabulary, learning to describe their choices and discuss how they turned simple materials into unique works of art. We can’t wait to showcase their incredible work—stay tuned for more artistic adventures!
This term, our Year 3 students have been studying the work of renowned American artist Jeff Koons. Inspired by his playful and bold sculptures, students created their own Koons Dog artworks using oil pastels.
A key focus of this project was on blending colours to create smooth transitions and depth, making their drawings appear more three-dimensional. Students also explored shape and form, carefully considering how to create the illusion of volume and structure in their artwork.
Through this process, students not only developed their technical skills but also learned how colour and shading can bring a drawing to life. Their artworks are bright, fun, and full of personality—just like Koons' famous sculptures!
This term, our Year 4 students have been diving into the unique and whimsical world of Tim Burton! They have explored his signature artistic style, focusing on exaggerated features such as large eyes, sharp chins, and expressive shapes, which give his characters their distinctive charm.
In addition to studying Burton’s approach to character design, students also discussed minimalist colour choices, learning how a limited palette can create mood and impact an artwork. Using markers, they applied these concepts to draw their own Tim Burton-inspired self-portraits, incorporating bold lines and exaggerated proportions to bring their creative visions to life.
This unit has encouraged students to experiment with expressive character design, think critically about artistic choices, and embrace their own unique drawing styles. The results are wonderfully eerie, imaginative, and full of personality!
Our Year 5 students are continuing their work on tints, tones, and shades as they bring their disco ball artworks to life. This project challenges them to focus on detail, building both concentration and resilience—key aspects of being zesty, one of our school values!
As students complete their artworks, they will be cutting them out and presenting them on black paper for a striking final display. Keep an eye out for Seesaw posts showcasing their hard work in the art room.
A big well done to the year 5s who have been remembering to bring their smocks from home!
Our Year 6 students are exploring tints, tones, and shades in their portrait artworks. This project encourages them to focus on detail, strengthening their concentration and resilience—important aspects of being zesty, one of our school values! They have chosen a base colour to use and are using tints, tones and shades to add dimension.
As they complete their portraits, students will be carefully cutting them out and presenting them on black paper for a bold and expressive final display. Keep an eye out for Seesaw posts showcasing their creativity in the art room.
