In Literacy this month, we have been working hard to review and build on our understanding of key concepts. Using our Literacy New Waves book, we’ve focused on identifying and using verbs, nouns, pronouns, and adverbial phrases. As part of our Novel Unit, we’ve continued exploring The Last Bear, learning about April’s mission to save the last polar bear by taking him to Svalbard to join other bears. In Writing, we’ve completed our persuasive writing unit, where we practiced expressing our opinions and supporting them with strong arguments. Now, we’ve started our new unit on information report writing. We’re learning how to write clear, informative reports and are deepening our understanding of sentence structure, focusing on dependent and independent clauses, as well as coordinating and subordinating conjunctions.
In Numeracy, we have been focusing on addition and subtraction with decimals, helping us understand how to work with numbers more precisely. We’ve been learning strategies to add and subtract decimal numbers, applying these skills to solve real-life problems. We’ve also been exploring how to read timetables, understanding how to convert time between different formats and calculate time intervals. Additionally, we’ve had fun with tessellations, discovering how shapes can be repeated without gaps or overlaps to create interesting patterns. It’s been a great mix of practical skills and creative problem-solving!
In Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), we have been focusing on gratitude and why it’s important to look for things to be grateful for every day. We’ve discussed how practicing gratitude helps us feel more positive and appreciate the little things in life, even during challenging times. By taking time each day to reflect on what we’re thankful for, we can improve our overall well-being and create a more positive mindset. We’ve also learned that gratitude can help build stronger relationships and make us more resilient in facing difficulties. It’s been a valuable lesson in developing a positive attitude and appreciating the good things in our lives!
In Auslan, we have been learning useful signs for everyday situations, such as shopping and having breakfast. We’ve practiced signs for common items you might find in a shop, like food, drinks, and clothes, as well as how to ask for help or directions while shopping. We’ve also explored signs related to breakfast, such as the names of different foods and drinks, as well as how to communicate about time and eating routines.
