Macqlit

Kempsey High School is pleased to announce that we will be offering the MacqLit Reading Program to a group of Year 7 students.
This program has been running in NSW schools for over 20 years and is designed to support students who may need additional assistance in developing their reading skills, focusing on improving their reading comprehension, fluency, and overall literacy.
Students who are part of the program with attend in small groups of up to 6 students for 4 lessons per week for 2 terms. The MacqLit Reading Program is tailored to meet the individual needs of students, employing structured lessons that combine both phonics and reading strategies. Kempsey HS is starting with a small group of students from Year 7 in 2025.
Through engaging activities and targeted support, students will enhance their ability to decode text and understand what they read. As well as doing the one-hour MacqLit lessons, students need to get plenty of opportunities to practise the skills they are learning by reading at home and at any times offered at school.
The staff delivering this program have undergone thorough training to ensure the best outcomes for our students. They are equipped with the skills and resources necessary to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
We believe that with the right guidance, every student can improve their literacy skills and gain confidence in their abilities.
