Over the next few weeks this term and into next term, we continue our whole school focus on the High Impact Learner Agency Trait of “Acting with Courage.”
Acting with Courage means maintaining a positive attitude, being willing to take risks for the greater good, and adapting to ever-changing conditions. It involves students remaining curious about the world around them and what they can accomplish without preconceived limits.
When students act with courage, they can persist even when things are hard or when faced with a challenge. Learners who understand the importance of facing fear and being vulnerable, who accept falling and getting up again as part of the journey, tend to have quicker access to their courage.
Students who pursue goals in the face of adversity or uncertainty are acting with courage. Courage empowers students to open doors to new learning and helps learners to grow. Courageous learners are open to possibilities and diverse perspectives. They can lean into the unknown to seek answers. Choosing to Act with Courage leads to personal growth and positive change.
Each of our HILAT’s is broken down into four developmental stages which I will share more about next week but here is an example of what this looks like with our Year 3 students. They have been unpacking and sharing examples of how they have moved from “protective of self” to “open to trying” with their learning.
Check those smiles and curious faces!
Our students are really engaged and challenged with our STEAM specialist subject. STEAM combines Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics to foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in students. Not only do we have a wonderful and energetic STEAM teacher in Lauren Richardson, but we are also so lucky to have an inspirational space that was part of our new gym build. One of the best parts is the way this classroom opens onto an outdoor stage and learning area allowing our students to explore and learn so effectively.
This term our students have been studying the following units of work:
Prep - The Science of Bubbles
Years 1 & 2 - The Microscopic World
Years 3 & 4 - Flight
Years 5 & 6 - Architecture
Greenhills Primary School continues our long and proud history of music excellence, and particularly our choral program. Last week our School Choir commenced for 2025. We are fortunate to have Stephen Valeri employed as our Choir Director. Stephen brings a wealth of professional experience having been in many professional productions and a vast teaching background as well.
The choir is open to students in Years 4-6 and rehearsals are Tuesday morning from 8am in the Performing Arts room. We look forward to their first performance next term.
We really appreciate all the help and support our parents, grandparents and other community members do across our school. Don’t forget that if you are assisting as a parent helper, there is an annual induction process that must be completed. This is to ensure that our school follows all the Childsafe and OH & S requirements.
It is as simple as logging into the school website, watching the induction video and then signing and retuning the associated forms (forms can be picked up from the office or downloaded).
Another GREAT tradition at Greenhills is our End of Term BBQ’s. Come along this Friday from 3.30pm and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and catch up with other parents and carers. There will of course be sausages and drinks for sale thanks to our Parent Association team. All the money raised at this event will support the purchase of games for the yard like Connect Four and Jenga.
Each ANZAC Day, the Greensborough RSL Sub-Branch invite our school to attend the ANZAC Day Memorial Service on the 25th of April. The Service will be held at the Greensborough War memorial Park, 203 Henry Street, Greensborough commencing at 9.15am and concluding around 10am. This year our school will also be involved in the march to the service. This starts at 8.45am from outside the Greensborough RSL. If your family is attending, it would be GREAT for them to wear Greenhills School uniform as a mark of respect. Those students who attend will also be able to lay a wreath on behalf of our school community.
Our last day of this term is Friday 4th April. We will hold an assembly at 1.50pm and students will finish school at 2.30pm.
The first day for students in Term 2 is Tuesday 22nd April.
