We need your pizza boxes!

The STEM club and Earth at Academy are collaborating in an effort to create solar powered ovens!

We are very excited about this initiative to learn more about clean energy and how our atmosphere works.  But we need your pizza boxes to do it!  If you order a pizza over the next month, please give the box to your child to bring in to school.

We will be storing them in the Science building. Greasy boxes welcome!

Year 7 Pi Recital Competition

On 14 March, we celebrated Pi Day, one of the most fun days on the maths calendar! Pi (π) is the famous number that starts with 3.14 and keeps going forever without repeating – it’s used to measure circles and it’s been calculated to over 62 trillion digits so far.

Since Pi begins with 3.14, it makes sense we celebrate it on the 14 of March every year.

To help mark the occasion, the Year 10 Maths Committee hosted the annual Pi Recital Competition at lunch in MCK 2.3, and it was a hit!  The challenge?  See how many digits of Pi you can recite from memory without making a mistake.  It was great to see so many Year 7s give it a go, and also to see friends and teachers show up to support and cheer them on.

Some students used chunking strategies, while others memorised songs or patterns to help them.  No matter how they prepared, it was awesome seeing the effort everyone put in.

Everyone who participated earned a Pi badge, and there were prizes for the top three who really blew us away with how many digits they remembered!

And the winners were…

         1st: Nadia - 82 digits!                   2nd: Maya - 65 digits!                   3rd: Janelle - 56 digits!

A big congratulations to our winners and to everyone who gave it a try – it takes guts to stand up and test your memory like that!  Thanks to everyone who helped make Pi Day special this year, and we hope to see even more of you next time.
