Junior School
Years 7 & 8
This week, our Year 7 students had the unique privilege of walking in the footsteps of the Sisters of Mercy as they explored the history of our campus with Principal Sr Mary.
Through this special tour, students gained a deeper appreciation of the rich heritage of the Academy and the enduring legacy of Mercy education.
Beginning at the Ursula Frayne Memorial Chapel, students heard stories of the school’s foundation and the pioneering spirit of the Sisters who shaped its mission. Sr Mary shared insights into the Mercy values that continue to guide us today, highlighting significant locations across the campus, including historic classrooms, the convent and the original school buildings.
As students listened to the stories of the past, they reflected on what it means to be part of a Mercy community—one built on compassion, service and faith. The tour allowed them to see their school through new eyes, understanding that they are part of a story much bigger than themselves.
We are grateful to Sr Mary for sharing her wisdom and passion, inspiring our newest students to embrace the Mercy journey with open hearts and minds.
On the 20 March, our Year 7 students and their Year 12 Big Sisters came together for a special picnic at the gardens. This tradition is a wonderful opportunity for our newest students to connect with their senior mentors in a relaxed and joyful setting.
Sharing snacks, playing card games and chatting in the sunshine, the Year 7s and 12s strengthened their bonds, fostering a true sense of sisterhood. It was a beautiful reminder of the supportive and welcoming community we cherish at our school.
We look forward to seeing these friendships continue to grow throughout the year!

As part of their Religious Education studies, our Year 8 students recently had the opportunity to take part in a mock Baptism ceremony in the Ursula Frayne Memorial Chapel. This hands-on learning experience allowed students to deepen their understanding of the significance of this foundational sacrament within the Catholic tradition.
Guided by their teachers, students explored the symbols and rituals of Baptism, taking on different roles such as parents, godparents and the priest. Using water, a white garment, and a baptismal candle, they enacted the sacrament, reflecting on its meaning and the promises made during the rite. This immersive activity helped them connect their studies to real-life faith practices, fostering a deeper appreciation of their own spiritual journeys.
The sacred space of the Ursula Frayne Memorial Chapel provided the perfect setting for this experience, reminding students of our school’s rich Mercy heritage and the legacy of our foundress. It was a meaningful and engaging way to bring learning to life, reinforcing the importance of Baptism as the gateway to Christian life.
We commend our Year 8 students for their enthusiasm and thoughtful participation in this special learning experience!

Things are busy on the Year 8 front this year. As you can see in the photos, Year 8 Red ran an enormously successful bake sale, drink stall and chocolate counting competition. Thanks to Ms Lin for her dedication, enthusiasm and vision in organising this. She certainly is a great mentor to us all.
In preparation for the upcoming Medieval Day, Year 8 put the lovely Carlton Gardens across the road to good use. We will be having a Medieval picnic in the Gardens as a part of our Medieval celebrations. Thanks to Mr Tomassini for his leadership and sense of purpose. He sure has arranged what will be a fun day.
Oh, and congratulations to the Year 7 and 8 tennis team as well. Chelsea Huynh, Agnese Camarda, Yana Tozoulis and Valentina Hrsic from Year 8 and Emily Duong from Year 7 - all played courageous and determined tennis to take out the Junior Championship!
Year 8 students have enjoyed a fun and successful year so far.
