Dear Members of the Academy community.
The end of term looms! It has been a busy but very rewarding term and I am sure all of us are looking forward to the end of term and the holiday break which provides an opportunity to rest and renew.
Throughout this newsletter you will see glimpses of the term and the activities that have taken place in addition to the daily teaching and learning.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of the Academy and, in particular, the teachers who have supported your daughters in their learning journey. We have extraordinary teachers here at the Academy – teachers who work so diligently to ensure that learning is optimised and students are both encouraged and enabled to achieve and to grow – to grow in their understanding and appreciation of themselves and of all they have to offer.
I am so proud of the students of the Academy, from the Year 7 students who have settled in so well and are embracing Academy life, to the students in the middle school who are enjoying subjects of their own choosing and the joys of the Synergy program, to the Senior students who are immersed in the challenges of their VCE years and are applying themselves so diligently to their studies.
But, most importantly, our students are Mercy students who have embraced the Mercy values and truly lived these values this term. They have opened their hearts to those in need and donated their time, their gifts and indeed their money to make a difference. Day after day I have witnessed the different stalls raising funds for Project Compassion. Likewise, the breakfast visits to St Mary’s House of Welcome have begun again and our senior students are constantly at the entrance gate, not only welcoming students into the College each day, but highlighting a number of worthy causes. Our College student leaders have lead the way and their enthusiasm, good will and determination to make a difference have been both heartwarming and inspirational. Academy is indeed a special community and how privileged we are to be members of this community.
In the weeks ahead, I encourage families to reflect on the story of Easter, a story of hope conquering despair, of encounter leading to the fullness of life. May the Blessings of the Easter season be yours in abundance.
Three things flow from the resurrection of Jesus Christ;
three things that matter.
In his resurrection,
Jesus recognises us personally;
he invites us to peace;
and he sends us out.
Pope Francis.
Every blessing,
