Principal's News

Where every child is known, challenged and supported to be lifelong learners.

Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter and celebrated with family and friends, and that the holiday break was full of fun, adventures and some quiet time. It was lovely to hear from the children, all the exciting things they did over the holidays, whether they went away or stayed home!

Pope Francis

We at St Brigid’s, as a Catholic school, join the worldwide Church in mourning the death of Pope Francis. He leaves us with a legacy to continue - ‘an emphasis on the mercy and compassion of God, and on the Church’s vocation to be a sign and bearer of that merciful love in an increasingly troubled world.’ (Extract)

We have reflected and prayed as a whole school, and our Year 5/6 children also attended Mass on Wednesday.

Please find below further extracts about Pope Francis from the article ‘Australian Catholics Mourn Pope Francis’.

Australian Catholic Bishops Conference President Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB says Pope Francis will be remembered as a man of simplicity, humility and compassion.

‘While the Catholic Church, and indeed the whole world, will now turn its attention to the election of a new pope, faithful Catholics will also be praying for Pope Francis, that the mercy and compassion of God which he proclaimed to the world will now embrace him as he enters into the mystery of eternal life,’ Archbishop Costelloe said.

‘They will also join with so many others around the world who will remember with gratitude the simple goodness of a humble man who was ready to make of his whole life a gift of love and service, not just for his fellow Catholics but for everybody.

‘May he rest in peace.’

Easter Sunday Liturgy

Tuesday afternoon, our Year 6 Liturgy and Community group led the school in prayer to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. We began with a reflection and a minute's silence to remember and pray for Pope Francis and concluded with a rousing rendition of ‘Rise Up’ complete with actions.

District Cross Country Training

Training for District Cross Country began this week. We had a beautiful sunny morning to begin our training, followed by a yummy breakfast.

We have four sessions to come in preparation for District Cross Country on Tuesday, 13th May.

Week 2: Wednesday 30th April & Friday 2nd May - 7:30am-8am

Week 3: Wednesday 7th May & Thursday 8th May - 7:30am-8am

Winter Uniform

Once the weather is starts to cool down, we will begin to wear winter uniform. We will have a two-week period to transition from summer to winter, but we ask that you not mix the uniforms.  All students will be required to be in winter uniform by Monday 12 May.

We supply St Brigid’s winter beanies for the colder months. They can be purchased through the school office and PSW. This is the only beanie that can be worn at school. The winter pinafore and skirt can only be purchased through the school office.  Orders for Beanies and Pinafores can be placed via the CDFpay app.  Just choose the shop button and the uniform items will appear.

Just a reminder that our uniform shop is now at PWS on Cheltenham Rd.

BOYS: If your child does not like to wear pants, we do allow them to wear shorts all year round.

HAIR: All hair below the collar must be tied back. This is for both boys and girls. This is also part of our uniform policy.

Thank you for your support in this matter. Wearing our uniform correctly demonstrates that we are proud to be part of the St Brigid’s community.

Anzac Day

Anzac Day is tomorrow, and an Operoo about the ANZAC Day March went out to our Year 5/6 students last term. This March is to remember our Anzacs who fought for our country to enable us to be safe and at peace with the rest of the world. All parents and students are more than welcome to attend with us. We will meet at Mentone Park at 8.30 am to begin the walk to the Mentone RSL. As a school, we commemorated ANZAC Day this afternoon in a beautiful liturgy led by our Year 6 Leaders.

Where’s Wendy?

As you are no doubt aware, Wendy is currently travelling overseas. We thought it would be fun to play ‘Where’s Wendy?’  She is presently in Scotland at Melville Castle, Edinburgh having a wonderful time.
