Hello Everyone,
Youth Leadership Conference
On Wednesday, I had the pleasure in taking 10 of our student leaders from Year 5 and 6 to the Melbourne Convention Centre for the Igniting Change Youth Leadership Academy Australia Conference. We had a number of students apply for the opportunity to attend by writing an expression of interest. From this, we selected 10 students to represent our school.
The conference was engaging, energetic and thought provoking. Students gained an insight into strategies they can use to build their confidence as leaders, that age is not a barrier, and the steps to take to identify a challenge they would like to address to make change.
The students have written a brief reflection from the day, which you can read further into this newsletter.
Thank you to Mrs Fiona Basillie who assisted as a volunteer.
Harmony Day
Last week we celebrated Harmony Week with a day to embrace and celebrate the diversity of our school community. Our DPW families contribute a diverse range of cultures, languages, and traditions, making our school a vibrant and welcoming place for all. We didn’t have an opportunity to perform the cultural dances each year level had prepared, so we will be performing them at this week’s assembly.
Celebrations of Learning
It was great to have so many of our families come into our classrooms to participate in our Celebrations of Learning afternoon. These afternoons are an opportunity for students to share their learning from the term, in a particular subject area, with their family. I know that students really light up when someone from their family walks in and they can work together on a task, look through workbooks or just show them some of the things around the classroom.
Deer Park/Sunshine Network of Schools Conference
On Monday and Tuesday, Mrs King, Mr Fielding and I attended our Network’s inaugural conference. The focus on the conference was Leading with Impact. Learning is life-long, so we valued the opportunity to learn more about how we, as leaders, can support our staff and students to continue their learning and to grow.
Kind Regards
