VINNIES NEWS
Easter Raffle
It was wonderful to see so many people supporting the annual Easter Raffle. Enormous thanks must go to everyone who donated items for the hampers, both staff and students. A special mention to Ms. Coyle and the Year 7 students of Chisholm House who ALL donated an item. This meant that we were able to create more than 45 hampers to be raffled. Sophie McKinlay (Vinnie’s President) did an awesome job of assembling each hamper as donations came in and the Vinnies Team promoted and sold tickets during pastoral.
An even BIGGER SHOUTOUT to Ms. Caitlin Mackay, the Number ONE ticket seller. She ran all around the entire school with the Eftpos machine to catch those people who could pay by card. She also gave up her free time to sell tickets to families throughout the Progress Meetings. She did an amazing job, and we are very grateful for her enthusiasm, passion and dedication to making a difference.
So, it is no surprise that we smashed our previous total, this year raising $1300. This goes directly to the SVDP St Anthony’s Tutoring Program, who are always so grateful of our efforts and support. The Easter Raffle is such a great community activity, and the winners always leave with a smile on their faces!
If anyone has a basket lying around at home that is now empty, it would be great if you could return this to the Resource Centre, ready to fill for next year 😊😊
Caritas Casual Clothes Fundraiser
This year, Vinnies suggested that we run a Casual Dress Day to boost our donations for Project Compassion (Caritas). This took place on the last day of Term 1 and students placed their $3 donation into their Pastoral’s Project Compassion box. These funds enable Caritas to support various projects in some of our less developed neighbouring countries. Some of these individual stories were shared in Simon and on our website throughout Lent. Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative. We raised approximately $2300, which is a great result.
Winter Appeal
As Term 2 begins, and we move into colder weather, the Vinnies will soon be promoting our Winter Appeal, where all students are asked to make donations of non-perishable food items and much needed toiletries. This is a time where we ask students to consider the needs of people much closer to home, those individuals and families who struggle to find shelter and food on a daily basis.
‘The Australian Institute of Health and Wellbeing found over 11,000 unaccompanied children and young people aged 15-24 had sought assistance from homelessness services in Victoria in 2024.’
Any donations made by the Nazareth Community go a long way to assisting such vulnerable people. This appeal will conclude on 10 June when we celebrate our Mass for Social Justice.

Year 9 Visual Communication Design
Year 9 Visual Communication Design students this semester have been experiencing the unique opportunities presented with the Double Diamond Design Process and the components of Visual Language. Students have learnt about the Design Elements, Design Principles and Materials, Media and Methods and used these to ideate novel design ideas for a Wall Calendar that they will be designing. Please take a look at their creative ideas from class.
