Deputy Principal Teaching and Learning Report

Year 9 Business Expo
On Wednesday 24 April, our Year 9 students presented their work at the annual Business Expo. It was fantastic to see the work that the students had produced collaboratively. A big thank you to Ms Donna Watts, the Humanities Instructional Leader, for her organisation of the evening and to the Year 9 Humanities teachers for their work supporting the students in creating their presentations. Congratulations to the students who were prize winners on the evening as well.
Trial GAT for VCE Unit 3 and 4 Students and for VCE VM Students
On Tuesday 13 May, all VCE Unit 3 and 4 and VCE VM students will undertake a practice General Achievement Task (GAT). The purpose of the practice test is to familiarise students with the requirements of the GAT. I thank Ms Marjoleine Dekker, Ms Vicky Lazaridis and Ms Julie Carlin for their work making this happen.
MACS Vision for Instruction and Explicit Teaching
The Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools (MACS) launched their Vision for Instruction last year. The Vision for Instruction is a comprehensive framework designed to ensure that every student receives a high-quality, faith-based education. This vision emphasises the importance of creating a coherent, knowledge-rich curriculum that supports students in becoming flourishing learners. By integrating academic rigor with the values of the Catholic faith, MACS aims to develop well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also spiritually and morally grounded.
Central to this vision is the commitment to evidence-based teaching practices that are proven to be effective in enhancing student learning outcomes. The Vision for Instruction provides explicit guidance for teachers on best practices, ensuring that instruction is both engaging and effective. It also fosters a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student is encouraged to reach their full potential.
Nazareth College teachers will be engaging in Professional Learning about the Vision for Instruction on 21 May. There will be no classes for students this day. The aim of the Professional Learning will be for teachers to learn more about effective evidence based teaching practices and to see how these practices look in the classroom.
