Hello Foundation Families!

Wow, what an exciting and busy term we have had. Term 3 has been filled with lots of learning and plenty of fun celebrations! Foundation students participated in Milo’s Birthday Surprise, 100 days of school and attended their first excursion to Bundoora Farm. Our students have been working incredibly hard and we are so proud of all of their achievements.

Literacy

In Reading, we have expanded upon our consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) knowledge and have begun to segment and blend words with four sounds (CVCC and CCVC) such as drop, sent, slip and rips.

We have also continued to read non-fiction texts that are linked to our Geography Unit, where we have been exploring various environments (farm, bush, city and ocean). This fortnight we have been specifically looking at the ocean environment and the animals that live there. Students have been using their research skills to create information texts about a range of ocean animals.

Please continue to practise reading the heart words (Yellow, Green and Blue) at home, these can be found in the school diary for your reference.

Stage 1 & 2: I, The, the , My, my

Stage 3: He, he, She, she, We, we, Was, was, To, to, Do, do

Stage 4: Her, her, Of, of, Are, are, Too, too, For, for, See, see

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have continued to build upon their subtraction skills. Students have utilised a number of strategies to solve subtraction problems, including using the cross out method, counting back and numberlines.

We have also introduced financial maths, where students have been learning about Australian money. Students have been participating in role play scenarios where they demonstrate their knowledge about completing transactions for services and goods.

Library

We are so excited to have our brand new Library in full operation! Foundation classes will be visiting the library once a fortnight. During their visit, students will be able to enjoy reading a range of books and will have the opportunity to borrow. Students may only borrow a book, if they have a waterproof library bag and no overdue books. Borrowing will commence in Term 4. Please note, library borrowing is for students to develop a love of reading where they can experience various books and genres. There is still the expectation that targeted classroom readers (Whizz Kids Books) are to be read every night to build reading fluency. Please ensure these are still recorded in their school diary.
