Medication and Reporting Process
Reporting Process
Often when a student informs teachers and the Administration Team about an illness or feels discomfort, our staff member immediately attends to the student and tries to ease any stress the student might encounter or experience. In order for our team to effectively help your child, it is paramount that parents provide our administrative team with updated medication information, and on a regular basis - especially when circumstances change.
The following is the reporting process that we abide by, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students.
Incident | What students need to do |
---|---|
In Class - When student feels ill or discomfort | Inform the teacher. Teacher will send student to the Administration Office, where the Administrative Team will assess the situation. The situation will be assessed, and if required, a parent/caregiver will be contacted, either for further advice, or to request the student be picked up early. |
During Recess or Lunch - When student feels ill or discomfort | Student must inform a teacher on duty, or any available teacher. Teacher will send student to the Administration Office, where the Administrative Team will assess the situation. The situation will be assessed, and if required, a parent/caregiver will be contacted, either for further advice, or to request the student be picked up early. |
If a student turns up at the Administration Office without notifying a teacher, they will be asked to have a rest in the Medical Bay, and then sent back to class for the teacher to assess. The teacher will then assess the situation, note the incident in the student's diary, then send the student back to the Administration Office. A member of the Administrative Team will then contact the parents/caregivers for further advice, or to request the student be picked up early.
*Under no circumstances, should a student contact his/her parents on their own accord in the event of an illness.
Kindly understand that while at school, the College has a duty of care to all our students and to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Therefore, any requests from students while at school will need to be channelled through to the Administrative Team.
Administering Medication
When a student reports an illness or feels discomfort, the Administrative Team in the first instance, will contact parents/caregivers. However, we understand that parents/caregivers may be busy at work or are temporarily unavailable. In these instances, help to the student may be delayed as we do not administer medication (e.g. paracetamol/panadol) without parental consent.
In the event that your child experiences pain or discomfort, they will likely need medication such as paracetamol or panadol urgently to alleviate the pain. To enable us to administer the medicine to your child quickly, kindly fill out the authorisation formto allow us to do so. We will also request that these medicines be supplied to the College, especially if your child requires them on a regular basis. For students aged 13 and over, and who are unable to swallow tablets, please supply our College with liquid Panadol. Any medicines you supply will be labelled with your child's name, and you will be notified when it is running low.
When parental consent has been given, the Administrative Team will contact the parent/caregiver via SMS to advise that the medication has been administered.
