Assembly achievements, awards and more

Trinity College Colac student achievements from Maths to Music were honoured at a special College assembly on the final day of October.

Maths News

In August, 63 Trinity students from Years 7 to 10 completed the Australian Mathematics Competition. Distinction certificates were awarded to Indee (Year 7), Tiffia (Year 8), Sam  (Year 8) and Thomas (Year 9) and our best school award for 2023 went to Indee.

Still in the wonderful world of Maths, our 2023 Rubiks Cube championships were recently held, which is a spectacle of talent and speed with students from Years 7 to 10. Competitors raced in two categories, Average Speed and Speed Champion.

Average speed is awarded for a 3x3 cube over three attempts, and the Speed champion is the fastest student after heat races of two 3x3 cubes.

Congratulations to Dawson (Year 9) and Josh who were runners-up in the Speed and Average Speed categories respectively.

Music Notes

And a huge congratulations to Tiffia (Year 8) who is the 2023 Rubiks Cube champion of both categories and set a new Trinity record of 34 seconds.

Musician of the Month for October was also announced at the assembly, with Sarah (Year 9) taking out the honour. Sarah is a member of the Concert Bands, Vocal Ensemble and the Elliminations. She has a great passion for her music and musical theatre and performed in the College production this year. She is diligent in her practice and is always prepared for her lessons. Well done, Sarah!

Sarah joined the Vocal Ensemble onstage at the assembly to entertain the gathering and provided an opportunity for the College to hear first-hand the results of the hard work and commitment of the group.

Indonesian Award

Congratulations also to Anastasia  who won the Year 7 Continuing Indonesian section for the 2023 Sayembara Lisan. Anastasia went to Melbourne for the presentation ceremony and we are very proud of her achievement.

Oratory Competition

Trinity's annual Oratory competition winners were also applauded at the assembly, with Jorja (Senior), Jen (Intermediate) and Audrey (Junior) impressing the judges with their content and presentation. More on the event can be found later in this newsletter.

Resource Centre Update

A comprehensive update on the busy Resource Centre's activities included the announcement of the winner of the Term 3 Reading Challenge. Congratulations to Mason and well done to all the runners up.

The assembly wound up with a report from Kieley, Pippa, Indee and Mateyha on the College's Sustainability news and the announcement that Trinity Day activities had raised a total of $3,000 – a tremendous effort that will be welcomed by the various nominated House charities. Finally, Alexis, Charlotte and Maddy presented on the recent Palm Island Immersion.
