Reading & Writing

In Reading, the students will be learning to: 

  • Revise ideas, information and opinions in response to texts and justify thinking based on personal knowledge and evidence from the text (Response to Reading)
  • Read widely to expand content knowledge and respond to more complex texts that are beyond the reader’s typical experiences (Response to Reading)  
  • Summarise the important information in a text as you read without including unnecessary detail (Summarising)
  • Express changes in ideas and opinions after reading a text and discuss why and how your thinking has changed (Synthesising) 

 

In Writing, the students will be learning to: 

  • Make decisions about genre depending on the purpose for writing and the intended audience (to entertain, persuade, inform) 
  • Experiment with vocabulary, incorporating vocabulary specific to the topic and mode 
  • Take pride in the content and presentation of their writer’s notebook and pieces that are to be published 
  • Take risks as writers and experiment with producing unique pieces that reflect their personality and interests
