Wellbeing with Mrs G

It has been a busy and productive time in Wellbeing. The Foundation and Year 1 students have had some insightful discussions about things that worry them. They can identify some of the physical changes that occur in their bodies, and they can effectively use strategies to overcome these worries. The Year 2 and 4 students were able to use flow charts to sort their worries into ones they can and cannot control. We used the term, “letting go”, of worries that we cannot control. The Foundation – Year 4 students then studied what it means to be brave.

The Year 5 and 6 students have spent numerous weeks studying and then presenting work highlighting similarities and differences between individuals and groups in Australia and Iran. This unit was thought provoking for the students who couldn’t believe many of the rules and regulations in Iran. The students, who had ranked their perceived level of freedom at home, school and in our country at the beginning of the topic, all selected to increase their figures by the end of the unit.

This week, all Cavendish Primary School students have been reconnecting with their 5 senses. They all enjoyed participating in a Sensory Scavenger Hunt promoting mindfulness and I was really pleased to see excellent teamwork with plenty of encouragement given to each other.

Making connections with peers through games and activities, is a very important part of Wellbeing. These games promote teamwork, communication skills and increased understanding of others. Two favourite games have been, the Dot Game- which required students to communicate with each other without talking, and the Newspaper Game- where students were required to work with a partner, to remain on the ever-shrinking piece of newspaper. Many a cheer was heard when they achieved the next level!
