Astronomy, Scitech, Adventure World

Excursions aplenty

As Science wraps up another big term, we look back over the huge successes and activities we have all enjoyed.

Planets of Discovery

The Year 7s, to finish their studies on Astronomy, presented their model planets, including a full report and discussion on their planet’s orbit, position from a star, type of material it is made from and its position within a solar system. The Year 7 teachers were blown away by the depth of research and creativity the students demonstrated.

Scitech

The Year 7 group also enjoyed a visit to Scitech on Wednesday, experiencing a planetarium show, a demonstration lesson by Scitech educators and some time on the floor to explore the general exhibits. The students were incredibly well behaved and were able to wow the Scitech educators with their enthusiasm, and great questions. There are many Scientists in the making in the Year 7 cohort.

Forensics

Year 9 Nobel employed scientific method to blood spatter, turning Lab 2 into a “blood room’’! This aspect of the Forensics Nobel unit helps students sharpen their analytical skills and appreciate the variety of evidence that can be collected from blood.

Biotechnology

Year 10 Nobel have continued their work in Biotechnology and are preparing for their visit to the Harry Perkins Research Centre in Term Four. The content the students are learning can be equivalent to ATAR Science levels. The Year 10s’ perseverance and determination to gain a better understanding on Biotechnology is certainly impressive.

Adventure World

The Year 11 Physics class visited Adventure World for the STAWA Physics Day. Students were tasked with using accelerometers, while riding the rollercoasters and driving the go karts, to gain measurements that can be analysed and related back to the laws of physics. It was also a great day out, and an opportunity to engage with Physics students from all over the State.

Happy Science!
