Enhancing Employability with Short Courses

In today's rapidly evolving job market, the importance of continuous learning and upskilling cannot be overstated. With technological advancements and changing industry demands, it has become imperative for individuals to stay ahead of the curve. Short courses are emerging as an excellent way to acquire new skills or deepen existing ones, providing a practical and time-efficient solution for those looking to enhance their employability prospects post-school.  At St George’s, we are supporting our students by offering such courses in Years 9 – 12.

Grandshake is a company that offers microprograms and virtual work experience that allows students in Years 9 - 11 to bridge the gaps in their skill set and allow them to achieve their future career goals. In Year 12, our APEx students have been offered the opportunity to complete industry-recognised courses that will increase their employability.

Unlike traditional education, which may have a broader curriculum, short courses focus on providing practical, up-to-date knowledge that aligns with current industry trends, helping our students to acquire skills that are directly applicable to the roles they aspire to fill.

One of the most significant advantages of short courses is their time efficiency. Unlike long-term academic programs that can take several years to complete, short courses can be completed in a matter of weeks or months. Our students can quickly acquire new skills and apply them to their current career goals without a prolonged time commitment.

In an era where flexibility is key, short courses offer a convenient learning option. Many of these courses are available online, allowing young people to learn at their own pace and schedule.

If you haven’t completed a short course, why not look into it? You might find something that ignites a career passion you never knew you had!
