A fun farewell to Term Three – and an awakening of a warm welcome to Term Four

The end of Term Three has arrived with a wonderful day of celebrations, fun and frivolity with the Mandela Charity Day held this afternoon at Perth Town Hall. The event offered a chance for our incredible student community to showcase their many skills and talents. We had everything from dancers to magicians; from a range of year-group incredible bands to individual soccer skills; from our Year 9 Ken and Barbie dancers to the Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls; from the staff versus student quiz (pictured above) to a Miss Hewitt Maths Challenge and so much more in between. There was indeed something to amuse and entertain everyone. St George’s most definitely has talent in abundance (as you will see further into this newsletter). Well done everyone!

As each term passes, I continue to enjoy the many different activities and events planned for our students here at St George’s Anglican Grammar School. We are an incredibly unique and special school. What I love most about this school is the deep ethos and belief that every child needs to find a chance to shine during their school journey and today demonstrated a very clear vision of that by the cheers that were shown to each and every act that performed on the stage to a packed audience at the end of a very busy and jam-packed term.

Term Four

Our calendar for Term Four promises to bring even more opportunity for celebration – please make use of the new school website and APP to see the precise details of these special events scheduled for Term Four. Invitations have already been sent for our Valedictory Service to Year 12 families and I encourage RSVPs in a timely manner to assist us with the catering needs of this significant event in the life of our Class of 2023.

As we reach the end of Term Three and September School Holidays, I wanted to thank everyone for their input into making this term another truly successful one. I encourage all of our students to take time to refresh and recharge over the forthcoming holiday period allowing them to commence Term Four well rested for the road towards the end of the 2023 academic school year.

We already have so much to be proud of and so many highlights ahead of us. It has been another term full of opportunities and we have all lived the school theme of OPTIMISM to ensure its success. Next term we start looking at and considering what it means to be a ‘Welcoming’ School as part of our Let’s GROW Together school theme for 2023. Father Gift and I, with the help of the 2024 Student Leaders, will be elaborating on this further during our Chapel Services and assemblies next term so that we can continue to be welcoming and inclusive of all here at St George’s Anglican Grammar School – welcoming of our new student leadership group who will be announced at the Handover Assembly in Term Four, Week Two, welcoming of our new Year 7 students who will join us for orientation day in Term Four, Week Five, welcoming of our new School Counsellor who will commence in her role at the start of Term Four, welcoming of some of our students who are still struggling to find their tribe and connections here within the School, welcoming of the six new students that will be joining us throughout all year levels at the start of Term Four, welcoming of our staff and all that they consistently contribute to the School and welcoming of all of our differences, special talents and uniqueness that make St George’s School Community such a special one to be a part of. I warmly welcome all students to consider over these holidays how they can individually and collectively contribute to our Term Four theme of ‘welcoming’ and what welcoming means to them.

A simple first step is to consider that “a smile is the universal welcome’’ _

(Max Eastman).

If we all started each day next term with a smile we could collectively ensure that Term Four at St George’s was a happy one for everyone. I wish all St George’s families a relaxing and safe holiday and I look forward to warmly welcoming all of you back to school on Tuesday 10 October with a smile.

Warmest Wishes and Happy Holidays,
