From the Head of Junior School

Welcome back to school for Term 4. I hope that your holiday was restful and that you are feeling refreshed and ready for the final term of school. Term 4 is always busy (actually – which term isn’t busy?), as well as joyful. I always look forward to celebrating the learning of all of our students as Presentation Day, helping Year 6 as they graduate and celebrating Christmas as a community.

I’d like to take this opportunity to remind all parents and students that we are now in the warmer months and our uniforms should reflect that. Students shouldn’t be wearing their ‘all weather’ over jackets now, and blazers are usually just needed in the mornings. Our Early Years girls no longer need the pinafore attachment on their skirts. Importantly, we are being really diligent with hats, as well as offering sunscreen at school. Parents are welcome to pack a roll-on sunscreen in their childrens’ bags if they have sensitivities to different brands of sunscreen. We are even getting a bit competitive with our classes and hat-wearing. Ms Walters Stage 1 class at Wentworth Falls are so far the most consistent hat wearing class!

Please make sure that your child has their hat each day and that it’s labelled. We know that, infuriatingly, labelled hats seem to grow legs and walk off on their own. Teachers and support staff are happy to help with children finding and managing their hats at school, checking in to see if they have been swapped with someone else, or if they’ve been put somewhere odd. Be reassured that a non-school hat from home can be work for a few days while a school hat is being found or a new one being purchased. Sun safety is important, and we don’t want children to miss out on play.

Please remember that MyBMGS is the platform used for communicating school events. Parents need the Sentral Parent Portal app and the Sharepoint app to access this from their phones. Our Junior School office staff are more than happy to help if you are having any difficulty navigating this, or if your own tech set up requires a different solution. There are a number of events in the pipeline already and we know it can be a challenge to keep up. Please reach out if you need any assistance at all.

Junior School Basketball

Our Junior School summer basketball season began on Tuesday 10th of October with the Under 10s playing their two games each. Their results are below. The Avengers are coached by Brynn Gerrard and the Stars are coached by Scarlett Frosh, both graduates of BMGS.

BMGS Avengers played the BMGS Stars and they drew 4 all.

BMGS Avengers played the Monkeys and the BMGS Avengers won 14 to 10.

BMGS Stars played the Randoms and the BMGS Stars won 12 to 5.

All of their games were exciting and it was great to see the children really excited and enthusiastic to be back playing basketball.

We look forward to seeing the two 5/6 Boys’ teams play in their games on Friday night in Blaxland and Saturday afternoon in Katoomba. We wish them all the best. The BMGS Swish will be coached by Dillon Hunter and the BMGS Katoomba team will be coached by William Gee, both graduates of BMGS.
