Hockey Semifinals

From Mrs Jane Crellen, MIC Hockey

As the hockey season draws to a close, we are thrilled to announce that four Kinross Wolaroi teams have progressed to the semifinals — a fantastic achievement reflecting the dedication of our players and coaches.

Our U18 Storm team, made up of Year 12 students, has had a memorable season, finishing 4th in the regular competition, playing in the finals on Monday. This talented group has played together for several years and is expertly led by the much-loved Mrs Marg Aldersey. What a fitting way to round out their hockey journey at Kinross Wolaroi — we’re incredibly proud of all they’ve achieved.

Our U14 teams have also had strong seasons, finishing 3rd and 4th in their division. Both teams have been supported by passionate and dedicated coaches — Auntie Debbie Orrock guiding the U14 White team, and Rev Sally Yabsley Bell leading the U14 Blue. In an exciting twist, these two teams will face each other in the semifinals this Friday at 4:30pm.

The Kinross Wolaroi 1sts have secured 3rd place in the 1st Grade Women’s Competition after 14 solid rounds. The team has really come together at the right time and will be a strong contender in the finals series. They play at 12.40pm on Sunday for a place in the Final.

We wish all teams the very best in their semifinal matches — your school community is behind you all the way.

Netball Season Wrap

From Ms Maddison Jones, MIC Netball

The 2025 netball season has been a remarkable journey of growth, resilience, and achievement across all age groups. With 26 teams proudly wearing the blue and white each weekend, the courts were alive with energy, determination, and the strong sense of community that underpins netball at Kinross Wolaroi School. Players and coaches alike have worked tirelessly throughout the season, sharpening skills, strengthening connections, and showcasing the teamwork and spirit that our program is built upon.

This year was particularly special as we welcomed back a team in Division 1. Our 1sts stepped up to the challenge of the higher standard of gameplay, demonstrating resilience and determination no matter the score line. Their commitment and improvement across the season has set the tone for the continued growth of the netball club. The elevated training standards established by the 1sts have lifted the intensity and focus across all senior teams, leaving a lasting legacy for future seasons.

The final round of the season highlighted the resilience of our players, with snow and sleet forcing the cancellation of some games while others bravely battled through the icy conditions. Despite the challenges, our netballers finished their season with pride and determination.

We are thrilled to celebrate the success of 14 teams who have qualified for finals: U10, 13A, 13B, 15A, 15.1, 15C, 15D, 17F, 17C, 17L, 17S, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Each of these sides has displayed consistency, determination, and outstanding teamwork, a credit to the players, coaches, and the families who support them.

Beyond the finals contenders, every team this season has made significant progress. Our junior players embraced the challenge of competitive match play, while senior players led by example, showing leadership and commitment to their teams. The growth of our student coaches has also been a standout, with many demonstrating initiative, maturity, and a genuine passion for mentoring younger players.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our external coaches, staff, parents, and student volunteers who have contributed so much to the netball program this year. From running training sessions and umpiring to cheering loudly from the sidelines, your support has been invaluable.

As we head into finals, we wish our 14 teams the very best of luck. Win or lose, reaching this stage is an incredible achievement, and we are immensely proud of all players who have represented KWS netball with pride this season.

This week also sees our Year 7 and Year 10 teams compete in the NSW Netball Schools Cup Regional Finals, held in Orange on Thursday. We wish them every success as they represent KWS against strong competition from across the region.

Rowing

From Mr Ben Watt, MIC Rowing

The 2025/26 rowing season officially kicked off last Monday, with crews easing back into training through a technical endurance focus.

Our mornings have greeted us with a chilly start, but in true Kinross fashion, the squad has embraced the conditions and simply got on with the job. With a refreshed look to the program this season, the focus now turns to building momentum towards our first regatta, which is just 53 days away.

This year we are excited to welcome a strong group of 32 new junior rowers. These athletes have been fortunate to learn from our senior rowers in Years 11 and 12, who have generously shared their time, expertise, and patience. A big thank you to our seniors for setting such a positive example, and to our juniors—congratulations on an excellent start to your rowing journeys. Keep your energy high, stay patient with the process, and continue working hard.

We are also delighted to welcome a new coach, India Allen, to the Kinross Rowing team. Indi was Captain of Boats at MLC Kew in 2019 and brings coaching experience from Geelong Grammar. It is fantastic to have her onboard.

Alongside Indi, we warmly welcome back Mr Adam Harrison, Mr Andrew Gannon, Miss Emma Fessey, Mrs Rebecca Pierce, and Mr Will Stanley Davies, with Mr Sam Bettle continuing in his role as Head of Strength and Conditioning. With such a strong coaching team in place, it is shaping up to be another fantastic season for KWS Rowing.

Finally, best wishes to all winter sports teams competing in finals over the coming weeks—we look forward to cheering you on.

Boys' Rugby: Heart, Hustle & History

From Mr Lachlan Barrett, MIC Rugby

KWS 3XV Chikkaluka

A huge congratulations to the Kinross Wolaroi School 3XV and their coach, Mr Alex McLennan, on claiming Premiership glory with a hard fought victory over Saint Augustine’s College in the ISA Grand Final, held at St Gregory’s College on Saturday, August 30.

The Grand Final was a true arm wrestle from the outset. We opened the scoring with a penalty to lead 3–0, before Saint Augustine’s struck right on the stroke of halftime, crossing on the wing and converting from out wide to take a 7 - 3 advantage into the break.

The second half was a battle of wills, with both sides displaying immense defensive resolve and refusing to give an inch. With just five minutes remaining, we finally cracked the line, crashing over for a try to edge ahead 8 - 7 and set up a dramatic finish.

Deep in opposition territory as the clock wound down, KWS won a crucial lineout metres from the line. Backing their preparation and trust in each other, the team executed their well drilled set piece to perfection, driving over as the final whistle sounded to seal a famous 15 - 7 victory.

This Premiership was forged through resilience, trust and a relentless commitment to the jersey, a moment that will be proudly remembered in KWS Rugby history. As the Chikkaluka roared from Gregory Hills all the way back to 2800, this triumph became more than just a scoreline; it was a statement of belief, camaraderie and the enduring spirit of the KWS Rugby Community.

Turn It Up: U16s 7s Rolling to State

After a title winning campaign at the Central West 7s Tournament, the KWS U16s Boys Representative 7s squad are locked in for their biggest challenge yet - the State 7s Championships on the Central Coast next Thursday, 11 September.

With Sweet Home Alabama echoing across last week’s training paddock, the boys have found their rhythm. Sessions have been first class, built on tempo, accuracy and intent. Combinations are clicking, defensive shape is solid and attacking layers are being added that will hold strong under tournament pressure.

This group’s ability to blend speed with skill has been a highlight - sharp handling, smart support play and clinical finishing turning training runs into moments of growth. Every session has shown their commitment to the small details that lift a side from good to great.

A huge thank you goes to Mr Sam Bettle for his guidance and leadership over the past month. His influence has given the squad clarity, confidence and belief, while keeping that sense of camaraderie and resilience that defines a great 7s campaign.

With belief in each other and the KWS spirit behind them, the U16s 7s team are ready to take their tune to the Central Coast and light up the State stage.

Thank You, KWS Rugby Community

As the 2025 Rugby season draws to a close, we want to pause and sincerely thank the entire KWS Rugby Community - our players, parents, coaches, referees, volunteers and supporters. Thank you for everything you have poured into this year. Your energy on the sidelines, commitment on the training paddocks and pride in the jersey have shaped a season we will long remember.

While the snow brought an early end to the Boarders vs. Day Bugs fixtures, the story of KWS Rugby continues with the traditional Wolaroi vs. Weymouth match and the much-anticipated Year 11 Day Boys vs. Year 12 Day Boys clash still to come before the end of Term 3. We also look forward to cheering the Girls Program home as they enter their final campaigns this week, showcasing the skill, determination and leadership that has inspired us all season.

The whole KWS Rugby Community will come together at the 2025 Rugby Dinner on Friday September 12. This will be a great celebration of every team, every player and the shared spirit that defines us.

Looking ahead, 2026 offers a fresh canvas. The lessons, connections and resilience built this year will carry forward as we set our sights on new challenges, new opportunities and another chapter of Rugby at Kinross Wolaroi School.

Thank you again for standing shoulder to shoulder in 2025. Together, we move with pride, energy and belief into 2026, ready to write the next verse in our Rugby Story.

Thursday 21 August - Rugby Round Up | Powered by Sydney Uni Football Club

The wet weather meant that this week’s Rugby Round Up was called off, with Main Oval left resting under the rain. While it was disappointing not to gather, this marked the final Rugby Round Up for the year - a series that has been a true highlight of our Rugby Calendar in Term 3.

A huge thank you goes to our partners at Sydney Uni Football Club for their continued support of this event and of our wider Rugby Program - their backing has helped bring our Rugby Community together week after week. We also thank our eyes around the grounds who each week help identify and celebrate our Club-Wide 3, 2, 1 Point recipients. Your perspective ensures the spirit of Rugby shines through in every performance.

Momentum now shifts as we prepare for the Boys 3XV Rugby Finals, while our Opens Girls head back to Canberra for another big clash against Canberra Grammar. Our focus for the week ahead is on finishing strong - carrying the lessons, discipline and connections built throughout the season.

Congratulations to our Club-Wide 3, 2, 1 Point recipients:
