Year 7 Geography Wellington Caves Excursion

Friday 22 August

What an incredible day out! Year 7 students explored the Wellington Caves, tackled the Fossil Trail in groups, made discoveries in the laboratory, and enjoyed a full day of hands-on learning. The sun was shining, shorts were on, and spirits were high.

Throughout the day, students learned about Landscapes and Landforms, the fascinating history of the Wellington Caves, and how the environment has changed over time. This excursion will directly support Year 7 in applying their knowledge and experiential learning to their upcoming assessment.

A big thank you to our Head Chef, Seb (our talented bus driver) and his sous chefs, the gappies, for serving up a brilliant BBQ lunch. Gratitude also goes to Poppy, Rory, Kate, and perhaps a future Geography recruit – Alexa – for their wonderful help throughout the day. Special thanks as well to Mr Bell and Mr Waterson for their assistance and leadership.

The Wellington Caves themselves are a wonder. Formed over millions of years, the limestone cave system showcases spectacular formations, including a 15-metre-high crystal column.

The students excitedly hiked deep into all three caves. The Gaden Cave features a dazzling display of stalagmites, stalactites, and rare coral-like structures. Its intricate chambers reveal a truly diverse collection of crystal formations to inspire awe and curiosity.

Students were kept busy exploring, discovering, and learning, a great day full of experiential learning.

Suzanne Leal author Visit for Year 7 and 8

Thursday 28 August, 2025

Year 7 and 8 were able to do a writing workshop with Suzanne where they discovered the magic of using real places, events and people to create their own story. Suzanne encouraged the students to consider writing a story based on the life or experiences of someone they know.

If your child would like a copy of one of the books she spoke about, they are still available at Collins Bookstore Kinross Wolaroi School Event - Suzanne Leal - Collins Booksellers Orange
