Junior School Football

From Mr Lachlan Barrett, Coach

Top Training = Top Performance

Over the past month, Junior School Football has enjoyed a series of high-quality Monday and Wednesday afternoon training clinics that have set the tone for growth and success. With a focus on developing skills, building confidence and fostering teamwork, our players have responded brilliantly to the coaching on offer.

Clinic Focus

Throughout the month, sessions have concentrated on:

  • First touch and awareness: learning to scan, receive, and play forward.
  • Combination play: one-two’s and third-man runs to open up space.
  • Collective defending: pressing and covering as a team.
  • Finishing habits: composure in front of goal and following up for rebounds.

Each training clinic has created a lively, purposeful environment where KWS Players can apply themselves, test their skills and see clear progress across the weeks.

Thank You to Our Coaches

A special acknowledgement goes to our Coaches Coach Keir, Coach Laffey, Coach Gibson, Coach Dawson, Coach Maloney and Year 9 Duke of Ed students, who have stepped to deliver engaging, structured sessions. Their energy, encouragement and role-modelling have been invaluable in guiding players and making the clinics enjoyable and effective.

On the Pitch

A part from last week's turbulent weather cancelling games, Saturday performances across the Junior School have reflected the work done on the training ground. More confident ball movement, smarter defensive structures and sharper transitions have all showed that the effort put in during the week is paying off on game day for our Kicks, Kestrels, Kinetics and Kodiaks.

Next Steps

Looking ahead, the program will continue to emphasise:

  • Receiving under pressure
  • Cut-back finishing
  • Winning second balls

Players are encouraged to keep building these habits, both at training and at home, knowing that consistent preparation leads to consistent performance.
